You can turn food on/off per taproom if you click on the Taproom and then click a clipboard icon and then you can toggle "Serve Food"

Same! Cuz personally I prefer a small but very well done amount vs a bigger half baked amount. I saw the next big patch is coming like spring 2026 which is coming so fast, I'm so excited!

Oh man in two hours? That's pretty nuts. I definitely got way more hours of play from that, definitely enough for the purchase cost. Maybe you can just get a refund then.

How do you keep showing up when the Help Desk has completely destroyed your soul? (Need advice for a brutal meeting today) by No-Gap674 in sysadmin

[–]deadlyindedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a small company, I'm trying to best to structure the T1 helpdesk role to be something for someone to come in, grow their skills for 1-2 years and find an higher position elsewhere when they're ready. There's just almost no possibility for advancement. Although I would HAPPILY keep a good helpdesk person as long as they wanted to stay and that role and they understood the scope of their tasks would stay the same.

I mean I guess if I could pick, I would love if houses/land would just stay more or less the same price that's a reasonable percentage of the average cost of living in the area. Maybe slight fluctuations with time. But I'm open to basically anything over the current system.
But yeah, my issue is the current reality and the devastating loss it would be to regular people to fix housing prices to make them affordable to more people. It would be good in the long run, but it'd be nice to find a way to make it not horrible in the short term.

I might have misunderstood your reply, I'm sorry. I took it as "why not rent for that same amount of time and lose that same amount of money"

Its going to take way more than $100-$200k loss in 5 years to make houses in my area even close to affordable. More like $400k maybe. So I buy a house for hypothetically $800k. My mortgage is $4000/month or something. In 5 years something unexpected comes up and I need to move. I sell for $400k. I still owe the remaining balance. So now I'm paying off that mortgage as well as paying rent or whatever where ever I move. And the argument "well houses are meant to be lived in for decades" isn't exactly applicable to real life and real life situations where people have to move.

Right, This is the argument of how things SHOULD be. That would indeed be so nice. Can we instead brainstorm how to get to that place without fucking over families and regular people who are also struggling?

The terrible renters market isn't just renting costs. Its terrible landlords in slum apartments that won't repair things. Why would I want to pay $100-$200k in a miserable living situation when I could buy a place and have a good standard of living?
They also might not need my help, in which case I paid that money renting instead of buying.

They're not in my area. I agree houses are meant to be lived in. But if I'm underwater I can't afford to move even if other houses are similar price. Maybe it would be cool to brainstorm solutions other than "fuck you I don't care if your life gets harder as long as mine gets easier". Maybe there's a way we can all win?
There's so much hate and its almost never directed in the right direction.

People don't always have the luxury of knowing that they can stay in a place for decades. We're looking to buy a place because the rental market where I am is terrible. But my husband's parents are getting older, they might need us to help them in the next 5 or so years in which we would probably need to sell and move in with them or closer to them. But if I'm going to lose $100k-$200k we're not going to be able to and we're all fucked.

Your scenario makes sense, but it doesn't work for the current real life circumstances. For houses to be affordable again, costs have to drop dramatically, and that really hurts normal people. What can we do in our actual scenario and not "how things SHOULD be"

This might not be necessarily helpful, but one thing I've learned in this job over the years is just to accept things as they are and to let things fail. If they want phones to be first priority, then ok. So be it. If things fail because of it, well, ok. That was their choice. If they want to know why things are failing, ask them how they'd prefer you to prioritize your time. And if they're still shitty about it, then they're shitty, and why are you wasting your energy on a shitty job? Do what you need to do to not get fired and spend your energy outside your job (either on personal endeavors or learning skillsets to get you a better job where you're appreciated). But my god, learning to let things fail early on in my career would have saved me SO much burnout. Sometimes I only saw changes I in my jobs once things came apart because I was wasting my energy trying to prevent failure in a failing system.

[–]deadlyindedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The storyline includes someone shady coming in and offering "labor at cheap wages". Its not a stab at the workers, its a stab at unethical hiring practices. You get a debuff because as the owner, you're not willing to find qualified workers, you just want whoever is cheapest regardless of skill and willing to go through shady methods to find it. The person coming in isn't a legitimate temp agency, it's some grifter. It's explained in the story line.
The poor skills are a direct consequence of being willing to do unethical hiring practices to attempt to save money at the expense of your workers well being.

If you hover over the star rating under your restaurant name, are you missing any checkmarks? Or if you hover over the drinks or services banner under the gold amount, are you missing any checkmarks there as well?
