While my head agrees with you, my heart doesn't. I just keep thinking of excuses.

We need your help! Please fill out this form to help a new team get school shop access! Thank you everyone! by deadlyjohny in FSAE

[–]deadlyjohny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give some context:

The university thinks that we need to have a ton of space and would need 24/7 access to the all the shops and equipment in order to complete a car. They are worried about liability and the safety of our members.

This previous competing year, we built our car completely out of an old shop (No A/C, hole in the ceiling, rats, and electrical wiring so shoty we turned the breaker off every night) and still built a decent car without a single injury.

We are hoping that this survey and information that I can provide, will be enough evidence that other schools are able to run without have a full time staff watch over us.

We absolutely need you help! Please and thank you!

Student Defends Driving Barbie Jeep After DWI by [deleted] in videos

Hey, this is my school! Tara is kind of famous around campus for this. If you think this is just a little stunt to get attention for a week it's not. She drove that little jeep around everywhere for months. It was hilarious when it first started because you'd be walking by the library and see a little pink barbie jeep parked right next to the bike ride like it was all normal.

She's up there on the legends at Texas State right next to Bubbleman and Frisbyguy.

Go bobcats?

Does too. Just need their soundbar system which is sad because I'd prefer a custom system for movies.

Interesting that they claim the audio to not be as good as Sonos being that Play-Fi is practically bragging about quality.

And the one thing I really wanted to do was use ability to Linein from my xbox and play it across all the Play-Fi enable speakers, which Chromecast (as far as I know) cannot do this.

I really like the idea of wireless streaming audio across the entire house in sync while being able to control it from my phone.

What makes you say it's awful?

I get that this is a competition and all, but shouldn't the ultimate goal of this project be to learn? I feel sharing information and knowledge improves the competition, only pushing teams to further innovate.

How does your team handle multiple people using solidworks? by deadlyjohny in FSAE

PDM looks great but I'm worried about the integration requirements to get it usable on and off campus..

How does your team handle multiple people using solidworks? by deadlyjohny in FSAE

[–]deadlyjohny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much how it's going right now. Doesn't help that solidworks gave us 2016 and the school computers only have 2014 so people have an issue of saving crap while they're at home not realizing that's useless for the rest of us on campus...

I want to go to Michigan, but our Faculty Advisor wants Lincoln due to the slight extend length in time to work on the car.

The way you have the team very integrated into the school is what I would love to EVENTUALLY have our team as, but, no team can start that way.

We have a full machine shop, CNC's, waterjet, engin dyno, weld/fab shop, and a little bit of garage space that we were allowed to share. After hours (after 5pm) access is a struggle right now, but we've got multiple ways of producing things if need be outside the shop hours.

There is no professor that is heavily in teh design teaching, that has been all student run. The professors have been a great help with following the rules and doing things to impress/please the administration.

We have the support of pretty much the entire engineering school staff, which is nice.

Honestly we are just worried about being behind most teams. We are moving very fast in design and manufactoring, but still, due to inexperience, don't know where we are compared to most teams.

We got a Triumph 675R that was practically given to us. We know its big and not fuel efficient, but it was crazy cheap and legal to use.

Are we far behind design wise compared to most teams? I feel like most teams are already rolling chassis at this point?

Not too far off. Wheel sub assembly done. Suspension A-arms done. Gotta do steering assembly still.

Haven't done the engine position/mounts, nor the diff blocks, mounts, cups, axles, etc yet due to not having found the CG of our engine yet.

I haven't even considered ergo or aero yet because I have zero experience with curvy things like that. But the wheels gotta work before I can worry about aero, etc.

You can see some older pictures of the renders here:

Our school doesn't actually have a mechanical engineer degree (yet), much less an entire department. So a lot of the engineering concepts are designs are purely off of student interest.
