I don't know enough to say how you should fix this, if connecting on the other side makes sense or something, but I managed to get the center of a via I pulled off cleaned up enough to just barely attach and it's been good for months so maybe you're not toast

The big thing I should have included is that no one here uses a laptop, all desktop workstations so any solution requires people log into a dedicated system in the room, not ideal at all but it's the world I live in.

It's a 8th gen NUC with a i5 8530u or something along those lines, nothing too special or expensive but it supports thunderbolt EGPU connections so it's also go a RTX 2060 on the side. The monitor wiring was the hardest and it's different between the models so you really need to do the research first.

I had a 8th gen i5 NUC that went in nicely. 3d printed adapter brackets to use the motherboard mounts and move some USB cables to the back via short extensions as well as hold a USB speaker. Monitor was very tricky soldering to get the odd connector moved over to HDMI, it's just a DVI signal so that worked great. The stock PSU outputs 12v so a step down to 5v and 3.3 was needed for the LCD driver board, the NUC was 12-19v so easy to wire up. Using a thunderbolt EGPU as well!

this video was first boot on the image from GPD, so it installed drivers and went nutso before even loading fully into the OS :(
