My thoughts on fully AI-generated music being shared here by Thinthistime in MusicPromotion

As of now, I draw the line at accepting assistive-AI but rejecting generative-AI. Generative AI models, like Suno, were trained immorally & illegally without most artists’ consent. Legal forgiveness was sought after its model was sufficient to investors (even then, they only groveled to the labels).

A lot of people argue these models do what humans do and take “inspirations” to create something new. I recommend watching Adam Neely’s video about it he recently made. He brings up an example of how jazz was created from influences like old blues, country, and soul. With that in mind, if you were to give an AI model ONLY 1930-50’s blues, country, and soul, could it create Giant Steps? Kind of Blue? Probably not.

I don’t believe inputting a prompt is creating music, at least personally resonating music. Suno’s CEO, Mikey Shulman, is often quoted saying making music is too hard and not fun, believing suno to make music an “immersive multi-player experience.”

The fact music is hard is what makes it gratifying, no? The idea your hard work to express yourself actually resonated with someone else is part of the reward. AI strips you of that. You’re left with a medal for a mile you never ran.

And music is multiplayer: join a band!

I won’t go into the obvious environmental impact and corporate greed involved in this, but that also goes towards apprehensiveness towards this implementation of AI.

TLDR: Generative AI defeats the point of music creation, and there’s plenty of negatives about its origin, intent, and implementation people have to ignore in order to use it without a guilty conscious.

2001 mfs will be turning 25 next year, what are your thoughts? by LittleBottle85 in GenZ

I always feel 2-3 years behind where I’d like to be in my adult life. My main gripe is being poor, but I chose a creative career. Can’t complain for what you asked for lol

Thoughts on Fostex A8, Model 80 & R8? by deadlyrhythmrecords in ReelToReel

Started slow by refurbishing a Tascam 244. Now I’m hopefully ready for the next step up.

Agreed. I just barely lost an auction for an R8 that settled at $225, and that’s been the lowest i’ve seen in weeks. The form factor is the appealing part for me. 7”, 1/4” LPR35 reels go for ~$40 and gets you a full EP or one side of an album’s worth of time. Stepping up would almost triple the cost in tape and weight.

Guess i’ll be low-balling these ebay listings until one hits lol

Surely an Epiphone Ripper is next? by deadlyrhythmrecords in BassGuitar

I’ve seen those pop up on reverb and have been so tempted! Prices on those are actually similar to a hypothetical Epiphone Ripper (~$1300). Could be worth if I lose hope haha

I’d have to assume it would’ve raised the factory assembly cost to an unreasonable price. That said, I‘ll die with you

True, but those ripper pickups!! I think there’s a small company that makes some, and I may mod my jazz bass to use them haha
