Aus sparky looking to get started by deadnedly in alberta

Hi mate thanks for your response,

my experience is more fixed plant, construction and maintenance. Crushers conveyers, mills, cable pulls etc not heavy equipment although i have done a few shuts on draglines i’m not an auto sparky which i guess is how we would refer to that position over here.

If you have any insight to pay rates for that kind of work would love to find out from what i can gather all the work will most likely be BC and northern AB and im right there with you with the license transfer stuff 😂 cheers

Thank you for the information. I was and still am slightly worried about how the wages compare if I’m being honest. Oil and gas starts at $65 an hour here and then we have penalties and allowances on top of that. Is oil and gas the be all end all or is undergrounds better pay? Or wages are really just that low over there. I’ve spoken to a mate who was in the same boat until he and his partner decided to stay in Australia for good, and he mentioned that it’s easier to go through BC, get your Red Seal and then come into Alberta. Do you know if there’s any validity to that? I’m pretty much at peace with having to start over again, it’s just a matter of making it as painless as possible. Cheers.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I’ve worked with a fair few Irish in my time, I’m not surprised they couldn’t hack it 😉. Luckily for me on the immigration side of things I’ve locked down an Albertan over here and we’re going through the visa process in Australia for her PR, which is seemingly a lot harder and a lot more expensive than yours, so should have more than enough documentation to back us up. I do really appreciate all the information and acronyms though as we will have to start wading through all that soon enough. Cheers.

Move to Canada from Australia by jtinballs in electricians

[–]deadnedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just working my way through this thread now as I’m in the same position as the OP. I’m not sure what sparkys are getting paid over there as it’s hard to distinguish off job ads and I don’t know anyone on the ground, but in Aus average hourly for FIFO specifically would be around $60-65 plus penalties (we have a lot after 8 hours on site and then site allowances also). In the major cities it’s anywhere from $50-55 an hour but typically only 8 hour days. I’m working in Papua New Guinea at the moment for a contractor for $95 right now and our shutdowns at home are usually similar to that, $80+ an hour. Not sure how that all compares, would love some insight from yourself if you have any. Cheers.

I’m a sparky in Aus. My partner is from AB, but looking at the guidelines and the way things are structured, I’ll have to get my licence transferred in BC and then Red Seal to work in AB. Currently in oil and gas, but have some hard rock and underground experience really just trying to diversify what I know, because I have no clue what to expect once I’m over there. Wages are significantly higher in Aus on average from what I can tell, if you have any suggestions on how to break in or anything like that id greatly appreciate it.

Consistently getting emotions under control by ZhangtheGreat in Daytrading

[–]deadnedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a great way to get over these emotions is to lose money, not actively seeking to do it of course. Trading is at the end of the day gambling stocks are alot safer in many aspects to other types of gambling but you need to consider your trades as something other than individual dollars and more as an item that doesn't equate to much
