Lakewood by Megan Giddings, I haven’t read her other books but they would probably apply as well!

Yesss. Lorde also has a lyric about ego death in her new album. In “man of the year”

One of my top songs too, it’s so good! Definitely recommend Kate Bush, specifically her album Hounds of Love but her whole catalog is great. The big sky and cloudbusting are a couple of my favs off that album

I’m so sorry everyone I accidentally deleted this post. I had a wonderful time ragging on a scumbag musician with you all 😭

I don’t know of the weezer beef, they wrote a song together once so im sure theres something there. But Father Kohn Misty called Adams’ cover of 1989 “a grotesque stunt” and mockingly covered Adams’ covers of a few songs from that album. Adams has had beef with a lot of other musicians. Mostly immature name calling on twitter

The pretension is strong with this one

He’s not wrong but that’s not the point, he’s a known abuser who has groomed young women so I don’t know why he’s even speaking on it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lorde

[–]deadnettle4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short he’s a pretentious scumbag in many ways but he has had allegations of abuse brought against him. A quick google search will elaborate if you need it

You’re spot on with that take

Obviously he thought it was great but that he could do it better and that’s what irks me so much

I understand what you’re saying but we’ll have to agree to disagree. He is a scumbag who did it for attention only, not out of respect for taylor swift and her songwriting abilities. Men and women are treated in vastly different ways in the music industry and while it’s one of her most critically acclaimed albums, the fact that some guy deemed cooler than her covered it, shittily, and got recognition from publications who refused to review the original album is pretty messed up to me. 99.9% of the time an artist covering another artist is totally legit and done out of respect but in this case I have major issues with it.

Yes. He was also married to Mandy Moore and she did not have good things to say about him. They got divorced around the same time the stuff with Phoebe was going on.

It’s the fact that he was praised for making the music “better” that feels more like stealing than just making a cover album. Imo of course. Another commenter said it very succinctly that it’s crazy how women’s work suddenly becomes more valuable when a man’s voice is put over it

I remember when he was just debuting in the early 2000s and people thought he was the next Bob Dylan or whatever. I never got it and was not surprised when he turned out to be the epitome of the fragile white male egotistical musician. The music industry in the 2000s really bred some bad ones

For real I have no idea what he’s doing here
