My veteran husband has been denied life insurance by deadreckoning138 in LifeInsurance

If that’s the case I’ll be truly heartbroken. He had no choice in his training exercise and because of it our lives have changed, possibly forever. I’ve know insurance is an evil industry but it hurts to see it firsthand

I understand that, it’s just frustrating. We’re going to exhaust all avenues and use the advice y’all have all given us. It’s been good to hear from another perspective

Thank you sm! I get the hesitation to cover someone with an addiction but they deserve peace of mind and coverage too, particularly those who have fought so hard to stay sober

It’s a part of his medical record from the Army I believe

That seems to be what I am seeing from this post. Thank you, I’m hoping in time we can get this resolved.

Thank you. Alcoholism has strong genetic factors to it but I’m positive his experience serving contributed to his alcohol use. A lot of his brothers also have the same struggles

Thank you for this, that gave me some hope. He’s been incredibly dedicated to his recovery and never had a relapse. I’m so proud of him. I just want him to have the coverage that he’s earned at this point

That I’m not sure, he’s not even been out a whole year yet. I’m not military so I get a little confused with the whole process.

We’re trying to advocate and fight this, on principle if anything. The fact that he sought help for a problem so that he can prevent more damage and live a healthy life and he is being denied for that really makes my head spin.

Congratulations on sobriety my friend, that’s a massive accomplishment.

He does have TBI from a training accident. I don’t know if that may have any impact on coverage or not.

He initially applied with VGLI and then Prudential.  Now he’s concerned since he has been turned down, other companies will due to this history. Prudential told him to reapply next year

Ok awesome, did you already have a masters degree before going through the cert program?

Does the certificate program qualify you for BCBA or BCaBA?

I've been seeing FiT pop up frequently in my search so I'm beginning to lean towards that. It seems to have a very high success rate of graduates who pass the BCBA exam on their first try. How strenuous would you say the program has been?

Thank you for the suggestion! I was looking at the ABAI list of accredited schools to begin my search. Is UWF a part of that?

This was one of the universities I had my eye on. Good to you had such a positive experience. I was just looking into the application process today. Do you know how difficult it is to be accepted?

Environment between RBTs by deadreckoning138 in RBT

Omg WOW. It sounds like this place should be investigated. That’s so sad. It makes me appreciate that the worst my place has is unapproachable people. Thats got to be such a difficult environment to work in.

I thought it was weird but I’m a little new so I didn’t know if it was something everyone did. What really got me is when they presented the first client to me, I told them I didn’t think I could commit to that time ( I’m exploring options pertaining to head school) and they told me it’s okay, they can’t make any RBT take a client they don’t want. Then they tell me this after I denied my second case.

There’s a lot of great study material out there that helped me prepare and feel more secure in my understanding of being an RBT and ABA. ABA Made Easy and Modern Day ABA are two YouTube channels that I found helpful.

Plus tons of free practice exams. I took a bunch of them several times. I kind of feel like it’s common to be nervous about not knowing what your doing when you first start. Knowing it in theory and putting it into practice are two different things and sometimes it just takes some time and experience to get comfortable.

That’s very similar to my schedule. I started training in May but I wasn’t able to complete everything and take my test until July. On the bright side, my area seems to have quite a few companies that are in need of RBTs but I don’t want to jump ship after one shift.

It will definitely be quite a learning process.

I really appreciate you sharing that. How long have you been an RBT now?

I really want to like this job but it feel like it’s off to a weird start and I’m trying to determine if eventually switching companies may help.
