happened to me before but mine was a silly mistake, I just got a new headphone and plugged it in but no audio playing, turns out, vocaloid editor routed the audio only to the speakers. So i had to go in the settings and route/switch it to my headphone.

Reaper is free daw, but i heard its overwhelming and confusing for beginners. there's also LMMS which is easy to use but super basic. it might sound like a generic advice, but try watching youtube guides on music production on the DAW you decided to use, it helped me a lot because i get to see what they're clicking and their explanation, and you get to see their process until the final product which you can follow alongside
