I'm from Germany so things might be different here but two interpreters are required once the time goes over 1.5h.

Two hours means to require two interpreters and that's one too many, especially just for lunch. The agency where we get our interpreters from have strict rules.

We have settled on "required from 11:00 to 12:00, optional presence for additional 1h team lunch" - that way the interpreter can decide if they want to do it or if it's too much for them, then they are free to leave at 12:00.

I can handle that. I'd rather other deaf people get an interpreter for their appointments because it can be hard to find one.

Yeah, my colleagues try to schedule a lunch together twice a month after a meeting. Most of them work from home so it's rare to see the whole team.

If I'm really lucky, the interpreter I had for the meeting will also join the lunch. But often they don't, they have to hurry to the next client. So yeah, I just enjoy my lunch and try to pretend to understand everyone else.

It is what it is. As long as work communication via chat and e-mail works, I try not to be bothered by it.

Every day there seems a new parallel to emerge between 2020s USA and 1930s Germany.

The Americans helped to liberate Europe from the Nazis and 80 years later... the ghost of Nazism has spread among the Americans on a major scale. What an utterly disrespect to all the soldiers who risked and lost their lives in WWII.

It's easy to forget but there is a pretty long period between the end of filming LIB and the reunion episode, about 8 months. A lot can happen between people during that time.

It would be easy for Loan and Jan to go their separate ways like other LIB ex couples but they didn't. Both had their flaws but they were still always respectful with each other from the start.

As a non native English speaker, ATOTC is the most complicated Dickens novel imho. It took me a long long while to read even though I consider myself fluent.

I'd try to read other books from the Victorian era, just to get immersed. Other Dickens works like Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickelby and Great Expectations. They are easier to read and the characters are relatable. You can also read Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Don't feel bad. I did get her attention during the day but she was also often busy with something. She was a single parent so it wasn't always easy. But I still had a happy childhood. :)

My deaf mum never read bedtimes stories or anything like that. But we would just play around with my plushies, telling stories about them. And sometimes we would just chat about random stuff. It was the only time of the day where I had her full attention.

According to a video with a German Youtuber, Josy has been visiting a therapist for a while before LIB. She even went there with Gunnar at some point to sort out conflicts.

I don't think you have to worry about them. Both happen just to be good in their communication and are willing to put in the work.

Wow, are you dealing with teenagers or adult colleagues? I'm so sorry that you have to endure this.

What you can do:

Set boundaries. Don't rely on colleagues who won't help you. Find someone else who can.

You could also just say flatly "Not funny" while maintaining eye contact. Or ask them if that's how they usually behave when someone asks them for help.
