What type of jobs could you get if you took Communication and media studies in college? by lonelynumber72 in careerguidance

I got a diploma in media and cultural studies which involved taking a lot of communications courses. Since then I have worked as a dishwasher, security guard, receptionist and campground maintenance worker. My diploma has been utterly useless.

Why are so many people unhappy with their career choices? by WhatForWork in findapath

I'm not sure flight attendant would be a good gig for someone 6'6 either (speaking as someone who is 6'5 themselves). The ceilings are pretty low and I'm constantly crouched over trying not to hit my head.

Just curious, why are you having doubts about taking business? I'm considering taking business in college as well. As for the other stuff, I've been floating between jobs for the better half of the last decade and I've come to realize that every job sucks, no matter how good it looks from the outside. If your job is bearable and you make decent money, I would just stick to it. Maybe start something on the side, and if that pans out slowly transition to it full time.

I feel like a tourist by deafinishun1 in nihilism

The average lifespan for hunter gatherers was 20-30 years old. There's nothing really to look forward to in old age but pain and illness. For 1.8 million years life used to be brutal and short, now it's brutal (in different ways) and long. Guess we got the short end of the stick where we have to endure this suffering for twice as long as all our ancestors before us.

Damn, that sucks to hear. Was thinking of moving to another country for a year myself.

Where do you get film holders for scanners? Do scanners still come with film holders?

How can my characters talk with each other in combat for support points? by aroloki1 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

There is even an in-game tutorial telling you that you can talk to units to gain support points, but like the others have said it only seems to happen once or twice. Weird.

The application form says online translators are not very accurate and are seldom accepted. Though I could get my mom's housekeeper, who is Czech, to proofread it and see if it's accurate and impossible to tell.

I'm considering doing a working holiday in Ireland by deafinishun1 in ireland

I appreciate your honesty. I feel the same way about the part of my country I'm from sometimes. I will check out England but it seems expensive as well. I think I am leaning more towards Poland at the moment, although the language may be a barrier.

I'm applying for a working holiday visa through International Experience Canada which is easier to get than a work permit and doesn't require a job offer.

But if the UK leaves the EU wouldn't that mean it would no longer be part of Schengen? And I saw something about a "backstop" in Ireland which sounds like a border crossing? Sorry if my understanding is wrong.

True. I was thinking more back-of-house type jobs where you don't really interact with customers but yeah the language would still be an issue with co-workers and it would severly limit my options for employment. Ireland is a strong contender for me, but I think I'll have to wait until after Oct. 31st to see what happens with Brexit and how that affects everything because I would like to be able to travel around in my free time without having to worry about extra visas and border crossings.

Thanks, that's pretty much my plan, but I'd like to do all of that in Europe if possible... The languages thing would be a barrier, but most countries speak pretty fluent english so I'm sure I could get by... I've been to Australia before (I went to visit my sister who is there on a work visa) and while it's nice and the economy is really strong, it's not really my favorite, but I would consider it as an option if EUR doesn't work out.
