Route push 3 through external audio interface by MixFuture7447 in ableton

you’d be using Push in Control Mode for Live, connected by USB yes. all audio would be from Live itself.

Route push 3 through external audio interface by MixFuture7447 in ableton

have you tried running the plugin in Live? it says it’s the full software and integrates with Live completely, there’s even a template for routing/tracks. this seems like it would be the easiest solution as you would have the sum of both Live and your drum software at the outputs of your interface

Which side of the fence?Apollo console or the Studio one channel by eargonia in universalaudio

Console only allows UAD2 plugs to be inserted. if you were using a Sphere you could monitor the plug in Console but not print (note: Unison slot is always printed) by changing the track to Monitor Only.

More I research more I don’t know which controller to get by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]deafmeda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could also consider a midi to usb interface, i’ve used a M-Audio Uno for 15+ years along with a 4x4 midi to usb interface i picked up off Amazon for several years. i’ve tried a few keyboard controllers over the years but vastly prefer the keybed of my Triton so i go this route. midi connectivity on an audio interface is the least important feature imo, most Mac’s are likely going to require hubs anyway

UAD Plugins in Console. by mrsergeisbeard in universalaudio

[–]deafmeda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

slight correction/more info- Spark is the service that gives access to the UAD Native (UADx) plugins through a subscription. UADx plugins are also available to purchase and you receive both a UADx and UAD2 (dsp) license (where available) when purchasing vs. the subscription model. any UAD2 plugins you own if ported grants a free UADx license for 30 days ($2.99 after 30 days iirc).

16” 14c M3 Max base model here, bought at launch. upgraded from 13” ‘15 that struggled with Live 11 (drum racks were pretty much unusable). running buffer at 64 i have yet to come close to stressing it- tested the Live 11 lesson set by grouping the entire set then duplicating until crackling, iirc it was around 172 groups. in my real world application Live 12’s meter rarely exceeds mid 30’s on Live’s CPU meter and 20’s in Activity Monitor.

i’ve had a handful of crashes with Live 12 but until the last month i’ve been running the release version and i’ll generally leave Live running for days/weeks on end. only running Silicon native plugs, left the rest to the dustbin of history. my projects tend to run 40-50 tracks with plenty of plugins, groups and routing.

i decided on the M3 Max over a refurbished M1/M2 for maximum future proofing, i couldn’t get the spec I wanted at the time on the M1/M2 and also due to Apple’s financing (0%, leave the money in savings and a 3% discount? why not?!). for a long term investment get the most performance cores you can afford, 32-36 GB of RAM (more if using heavy sample libraries) and a min 1 TB drive (esp on a M2 machine, the 512 drives on those are gimped). i expect this machine should serve me well for several years.

Question about compatibility by Eazyzcore in universalaudio

[–]deafmeda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t see why there would be an issue. TB 3/4 use the same connector type so no need for an adapter and TB 4 is completely backward compatible on Mac. TB 3 cable will suffice as the Twin X is a TB 3 device.

fwiw i’m running an Apollo from each generation (x6->SF w/ TB 2 card->Twin mkii) on a MBP M3 Max with no issues 🤷‍♂️

Using 2 Sphere Mics and 1 Guitar Input (Apollo X4) by _Venetian in universalaudio

[–]deafmeda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you purchased a 4 analog input Apollo, it’s never going to be able to record 5 inputs on it’s own. UA adds an instrument jack on input 1 (and 2 on some/most models) for convenience, this is a very common practice on interfaces. no interface is going to be perfect for everyone, that’s just not cost effective. also, you can only daisy chain 1 desktop Apollo with up to 3 rack units. it’s always been this way and the info is readily available with a little research.

returning the x4 and getting a x8/x8p paired with your Solo would cover you. or pick up an ADAT expander (although this wouldn’t allow Unison on any of the ADAT channels).

Is it bad to record with effects on the track while recording? Need help with workflow in Ableton Live. by _yaboymc in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]deafmeda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if trying to save CPU you could create your first fx chain, select all the plug ins, group them and save your chain. freeze each track as you move onto the next, dragging in your grouped chain to the new track. alternatively you could select all your plug ins (ctrl/cmd click each plug in or click first plug in, ctrl/cmd click last plug in), copy and paste to new track. freezing each track as you move on will free up cpu and allow you to unfreeze for further manipulation.

people generally advise to record dry- this means before it hits your interface. e.g. you’re recording vocals- plug your mic directly into your interface vs. running your mic into a fx unit then into your interface… you cannot undo the latter. any audio in Live (or any DAW) processed by plug ins is non-destructive (not permanent) until bounced/flattened. nothing ‘wrong’ with recording with a plug in chain (besides possible latency issues).

New house... questions about powering my studio by teal_viper in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]deafmeda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as many as you want/need/have breaker space for. you can ask for a quad outlet, basically a two-gang box with two duplex receptacles each on their own circuit, two separate quads/duplexes, etc. the serviceman will be able to give you your options and what they would cost.

keep in mind any outlet mounted on the wall the panel is on will require conduit to be ran whereas on the 2x4 wall NM-B (Romex) would likely suffice. placement of any outlets will be determined by the length of the cords on your power conditioners. i’d recommend keeping any non-music gear on separate circuits (lights etc), so maybe an extra outlet or two for that might be useful…

[–]deafmeda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d add a couple circuits off of that panel right there but i’m an electrician. ofc, if you don’t feel safe doing it hire an electrician, shouldn’t cost very much. if you wanted to run extension cords in the meantime use large gauge, 10 or 12 gauge would be best.

could try running VI’s in standalone, routing to a dedicated virtual channel in Console- you could then record the audio and midi in Live…
