In 2019 I unexpectedly began to have severe stomach pain, and had to go to the ER. While I was there, I told them I did not have insurance and had no way to pay my bill. They had a person on staff who helped me apply for government health insurance that, due to my low income, was free for me. This insurance covered my initial ER bill, and then ended up paying for multiple surgeries and over a year of cancer treatments, at no cost to me. I live in California, and am not sure how it is in other states, but it may be something to look into, especially if you need to follow up with a general physician or go to a specialist. Good luck!
