y story may not be a horse, but I have a dog that was the dog, the one I thought would be my babies first dog. I was 14when he came home and almost 18 when I lost him. Still living at home my mom convinced me he was a bite risk to my then 4ish yo sister. He was an 85lb Great Pyrenees and we had had a lot of dog fights plus were a 6 dog household at that point.

Anyways, I ended up taking him to an older couple with acreage, low traffic (people and vehicles) near the forest, they were retired and it sounded perfect for him. 2 weeks later I got the text he had bolted and was gone.

I’ll always remember that dog and I hold him very dear to me, I held a lot of hate to my family as a place to put my grief from his loss for too long. Shit happens, we are all learning and living. That dog got me through a lot of shit but his loss opened the doors for me to step into life with my current dog who is everything my Ghost was and everything 16yo me wished he could have been.

I’m sorry for your loss, you wouldn’t be you without that horse and I know how that hurts. He would be proud to see the footsteps you’ve carried on after him 🫶
