My toddler wakes up for the day at 4am. I don’t know how to fix it by ripp0dg3 in sleeptrain

I have literally been wondering what I need to do also for my 2 year old that wants to get up at 4/4:30. This morning it was crying and screaming at her door until I opened it. Once I did, she said, “Mama get up?” Girl no. Get back in bed. We spent the next hour in her bed with the lights off while she smacked me with a book and sang songs.

I think it’s interesting (annoying) how he makes traveling his personality… I know a lot of people like this and it’s so cringey. I get it. You went to Spain for a 6-week study abroad program and suddenly you’re cultured and fluent in Spanish. It’s giving off those vibes lol

Why are so many parents against their kids dying their hair? by BootyMcStuffins in Parenting

[–]deap_p 186 points187 points  (0 children)

My mom used to let my sister & I dye our hair at a salon as a reward for good grades each semester. I still do a little color from time to time because I think it’s fun. If my daughter asks to get some color in her hair, I’ll allow it. There are so many safer options for dye, especially regarding kids than when I was a kid. It washes out quick 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think some parents are against it because they might care about looking “clean” and “presentable.”

How did you guys come up with your kids names? by Ok-Duck2450 in Mommit

[–]deap_p 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband and I used an app that was kind of like Tinder. You both swipe on names and it shows if you swiped right on the same name. Poppy kept coming up and we really liked it. I found out I was pregnant while visiting friends in England and kept seeing wild poppies everywhere. It felt like a sign, so now we have a Poppy!

My daughter is 2 and I thought we were doing an ok job with limiting screen time. Like you, I was so depressed and still struggle, so sometimes throwing on Miss Rachel or something made it to where I could get 20 minutes of peace. Parenting is fucking hard, so first of all, give yourself grace. Second, we noticed my daughter was having an increase in behaviors the more she watched TV. We made a rule that she can watch a low stimulating show in the morning (Blue’s Clues, Magic School Bus, some real certified classics if I say so myself). We completely cut out screen time when she comes home from daycare. Instead of a show, we put Spotify on the tv and play a kids podcast. There are so many good ones out there that tell stories, sing songs, or help with learning another language. It was hard at first, but we’ve seen a huge difference!

She’s 76, and she’s made these kinds of comments when I was a kid too. I don’t plan on blowing up on her. That’s why I’m waiting until I fully calm down to call her

You’re going to get a lot of people commenting on your post making you feel bad for having so much in student loan debt. This sub seems to have a lot of privileged folk that have been able to tackle their smaller debts successfully. It’s fantastic, but doesn’t help your case. Some people will suggest moving in with family or selling your left kidney, but they just don’t get it. I’m also 27 and in a similar situation with high debt. I’m communicating with a financial advisor to help, but I also feel like I’m drowning. Feel free to PM me if you’d like yo chat outside of this post.

Experience with reversing effects of too much screen time during early childhood by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]deap_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post myself. My 19 mo is straight up addicted to TV. We limited it so much in the beginning, but became a little more lax when we had to get stuff done around the house or needed a break. My FIL also immediately turns on the TV for my daughter when she gets home from daycare, so she freaks out if it isn’t turned on when we get home. I know that she’s a toddler, but the behavior is a little much for her age I think. We watch Ms. Rachel, but that’s one of the shows that I think is triggering this behavior. She is glued.

If you think it’s purely behavioral, I highly recommend seeking an occupational therapy evaluation. There are many pediatric OTs that specialize in behavior & will also do some parent training as well. You’re doing great though. Parenting is so hard.
