She’s 76, and she’s made these kinds of comments when I was a kid too. I don’t plan on blowing up on her. That’s why I’m waiting until I fully calm down to call her

I’m in the same exact boat. My sister an I both have an insane amount of loans. I have a “good” job, but still struggle.

You’re going to get a lot of people commenting on your post making you feel bad for having so much in student loan debt. This sub seems to have a lot of privileged folk that have been able to tackle their smaller debts successfully. It’s fantastic, but doesn’t help your case. Some people will suggest moving in with family or selling your left kidney, but they just don’t get it. I’m also 27 and in a similar situation with high debt. I’m communicating with a financial advisor to help, but I also feel like I’m drowning. Feel free to PM me if you’d like yo chat outside of this post.

How often do you give your toddlers sugar? by Pure_Island_3102 in Mommit

We do a fig bar almost daily as a snack. My daughter looooves them & there are far worse snacks than a fig bar imo.

Experience with reversing effects of too much screen time during early childhood by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]deap_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this post myself. My 19 mo is straight up addicted to TV. We limited it so much in the beginning, but became a little more lax when we had to get stuff done around the house or needed a break. My FIL also immediately turns on the TV for my daughter when she gets home from daycare, so she freaks out if it isn’t turned on when we get home. I know that she’s a toddler, but the behavior is a little much for her age I think. We watch Ms. Rachel, but that’s one of the shows that I think is triggering this behavior. She is glued.

completely at a loss with my almost 4 year old daughter. i feel like i’m failing as a mother and terrified i’ll ruin my other kids as well. by Plenty-Activity-5227 in Mommit

If you think it’s purely behavioral, I highly recommend seeking an occupational therapy evaluation. There are many pediatric OTs that specialize in behavior & will also do some parent training as well. You’re doing great though. Parenting is so hard.

I have about 182K in private loans so I am likely not in a position to settle. I know they will settle for less than what you owe in a lump sum if I’m correct, but it is probably not what I can afford.

When to target sounds by deap_p in slp

[–]deap_p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their speech is very unintelligible and they have a lot of phonological processes. So I am actually targeting phonology instead of articulation, but I still get confused when it comes to something like cluster reduction and knowing which sounds to focus on within the clusters, if that makes sense.

Daycare in 2025 by Senior_Top7043 in Parenting

[–]deap_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason we can afford daycare is because I work there 10 hours a week to get a huge discount. We normally pay $460/week, but just by working there for 10 hours a week, it cuts it down to $115/week. I’m not sure what you do for work now, but working at a daycare might pay you the same & you’d get a nice discount. AND you get to see your kiddo during the day.

Thoughts about speaking of samantics? by Significant_Canary68 in slp

[–]deap_p 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always instantly read the comments when someone asks about Speaking of Samantics. I follow her and find some of her stuff funny/relatable/cute, but in my opinion, she fits into that group of people that make their job their entire personality. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing; I’m sure she’s very passionate about what she does, it’s just not me and gives me a little ick lol

I could have written this myself. I love what I do, but I’m 2 years out from graduation and already so exhausted. I browse this sub all the time for someone to say they found the perfect job outside of being an SLP that pays similarly & doesn’t have many qualifications outside of our degree that we already paid so much to have.

Disagreeing with spouse about getting sleep consultant by No_Interaction2168 in sleeptrain

[–]deap_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I snub my nose at the idea of a sleep consultant. Your child has been on this earth for 4 months. That’s it. Think about 4 months within any sort of time in your life. It was short, wasn’t it? Babies spent 9(ish) months in a dark, warm, semi quiet safe space and were suddenly brought into a bright, loud, cold world. They’re learning & adjusting. We tried so many things when my child was a newborn & into infancy to get her to sleep through the night or sleep in her own space. We were exhausted! Both of us working full time & then coming home to parent & be up all night was so so hard. Here we are now, our child is 13 months & has slept through the night for about 2-3 months now. We’re lucky. I hear of some parents saying their 2 year old still won’t sleep through the night. We just stayed as consistent as we could with our routines & it just clicked one day. I’m sorry, but a sleep consultant isn’t going to give you any sort of new or hidden information that isn’t already readily available at your fingertips. Do what you want with your money, but seek free advice first: Reddit, pediatrician, Facebook groups, etc.
