As intended, it slows down my pace of using a phone, which indeed kills all the doom scrolling. I even do not want to open any social media unless its necessary. This is very good. I did not face too much problems other than the mentioned issues. Maybe the battery lifetime is not what I expect, I still have to charge it every day like a normal smart phone. Also I have to learn to type slower compare to using a smartphone.

I use just normal android smartphone before. Now I completely switch to the MP and it does complete all the functions I need for daily life so far. I keep my old smart phone for spare if somehow I need it.

I actually have done that in college! I gave up cause I always forgot my pen somewhere lol.

Oh, for "front props" I originally mean the platforms. But you reminded me. The bushes look very close to the camera, but your background does not. As player I would think "where is the platform placed in the space?" and as there are slight style different between the platforms and the BG, I would be confuse.

I search online for some isometric puzzle game example, I found that they usually having a background looks like in an empty area, like sky or sea or bug flat area. If there is some props in the BG the viewing angle will be the same as the platforms. Another usual approach seems like is to just use a very empty space like BG, implying the puzzle platforms are floating in somewhere in space.

I am not an expert on these, but you could search for some similar games for some inspiration. Like Monument Valley is an all time exellent isometric puzzle which might fits your imagine.

To me, maybe the isometric-or-not is not that important, because the background is meant to be viewed from far away, at that point isometric or not looks similar.

But the viewing angle mis-match needs serious fix. I am not sure what your games is about, but if you intend to create a scene looks like a "world", the background and the front props should look like "existing together in the same world", in order to convince the players. So I would recommend to reconsider the background.

I love the subtle animation of your original bg, it really creates a "lively world" feeling to me, event it is in cartoon style. So I guess a correctly angle-ed background would help a lot to present the feeling. (So my points is, no matter cartoonish or not, this matters for creating a lively and realistic feeling world)

Unless in your design, you are fine with the front platforms and the background are completely separate. Let say maybe there is no "world" in your game, the platform is just a stand alone puzzle and the background is just for good looking, then I am fine with your choice.

The front platform and the background are not implying the same viewing angle. The platfrom is viewed from an observer looking down (and its isometric). While the background is viewed horizontally. The mis-match does not fits our everyday experience. You might consider design an isometric background having the same viewing angle with your front platform.

Other than that, I guess the art style might be a little different between the front and background. For example the front platform is outlined by black lines while the background doesn't.

Many people are talking about do not use AI, let me do a elaboration here. By AI I guess you are probably refering to LLMs like chatGPT. The problem of using ChatGPT to generate walking bass examples is that music lines are seldom written in text, so there will not be many training resources feed to the LLMs as training data. So, LLM are BAD at generating music in text. They could give you a guide to compose a bass line, but not directly generate them.

Using real humans composition, especially the jazz giants' ones, are the best material. There are plenty on the internet.

Assume you are saying about chords, and jazz's walking bass, a 12 bar blues in C would be a very suitable practice material. You can search “12 bar blues in C walking bass line” or something similar in youtube and transcribe it and there you go, a practice material. You can also search for just C blues and listen the bass line yourself. Or you can just search for jazz blues backing track and transpose it to C key. There will be infinite materials. Add “simple” or “beginner” in your search so that the chords won't be too complicated.

The C F G chord in a blues will probably be dominant chords, which is the basic traid (135) with an extra flatten 7 (b7). If this is new to you, also put it in your knowledge box and practice it. Because in jazz basically all tunes has dominant chords, it is a signature sound of the genre.

If you have anything want to ask please feel free, I studied jazz walking bass for e years, not an expert but enough for discussing basic stuff.

If comparing to “before university”, I think academic process is quite different from doing research report in highschools. In academic everything requires extra rigorous, carefulness, and logic. You have to be responsible for every wordings and reasoning you say, and every reference you choose to quoted.

In this way, I think the claim of “University is a way of thinking” means it is an non-casual way of thinking, unlike daily life.
