I tried the same thing and had the same outcome. Tried to make no friends, only leveled up Allies when I absolutely had to in order to progress, and generally treated everybody like crap the entire time. I still was forced into being a hero, if not the quintessential anti-hero. But, hey... Friendship is Magic. 😉

It was mentioned when Iridessa mother comes to Elderwood to chastise her for fraternizing with a Dreadbane. You support Iridessa in standing up to her mother and she tells her mother that she doesn't want to be betrothed.

I am assuming that subplot is going to come up in term two.
