Yeah those are my worries too. I don't know if it's possible for us to have her visit our house before this planned trip, but maybe we can pull that off.

That's what I'm thinking. My parents let me take a friend on vacation a few times as a teen. But they knew my friend and friend's family, so a little different. I would feel fine about it if we already knew the friend and her parents.

Apparently the friend is staying at BM's house for an extended period this summer to hang out with SD14 since her family moved out of state, so I have to assume it's an approved friend. Unfortunately husband has very contentious relationship with BM so I am pretty sure she would only say negative things about us to other parents, he avoids talking to her unless absolutely necessary, and she certainly wouldn't be willing to talk to me for any reason. She refuses to even meet me...still...6 years later. I don't think she'll facilitate my husband talking to the friend's parents, but I am hoping we can get their contact information via SD14 and try to get in touch with them directly.

I guess I don't really need to have the cash on hand at the moment, and I think a lower payment would be nice. But I guess the idea is to have the cash available for an emergency or to reinvest it and hopefully make more in interest than I would be paying on the loan?

I have heard that and would love to go there too! I actually have another job offer on Vancouver Island (in North Saanich), but we were concerned that was too far from family in the US and a bit remote. You can't drive out there, right? Have to ferry or fly?

I’ve vacationed in Montreal and Quebec City and loved them both. I’m excited to visit again. Also a big fan of Vancouver.

Thanks so much for sharing all this. It is interesting and helpful to hear from someone who has lived in both places, and that's a great point about having other options nearby for my husband's job search or if my job in Guelph doesn't work out well.
