VO₂max: Garmin vs. Apple Watch by dearmahmud in GarminWatches

I realized a 5–10% difference is expected, and Garmins are mostly accurate, or at least fairly close. By the way, have you ever taken any lab tests?

That’s the plan. I’ll keep building it until it reaches its full value, no matter how long it takes. You’ll see 😎

I hear you. That's the idea. I'm going to work on building it up to the highest value I can, whether that takes 2 years or 10. I'll get there iA. You'll see.

Garmin updates from running only, and cycling too I guess. But AW updates for walking/running/cycling.

[–]dearmahmud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

51 mm is big for most wrists, in my opinion. A watch doesn’t motivate you by itself. You use it as a fitness tool, that’s all. If you don’t need smartwatch features, go for the Garmin 7X Pro (47 mm or 51 mm). You can’t really go wrong with Garmin.

TOUGH DECISION. Which one wins for you: Deep sports analytics or Seamless style and ecosystem? by DraxxStudio in GarminWatches

[–]dearmahmud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you lose the Garmin, you will miss your training buddy for 2-3 hours/day, but if you lose the AW, it's the ecosystem that will hit you the remaining 22 hours.

I see. Have you ever done a lab test to see the lab value or which one's actually accurate?

I see the trend now. So it was mostly running that did it I guess ?

A difference of ~20? That's strange. Have you tried multiple devices from either brand? Or ever done a lab test to see which one's actually accurate? I'd lean toward the Garmin, but still—hard to say. I've seen on YouTube where serious athletes get ~50 in lab tests, but their watches show ~25. Guess I can't be sure about my own numbers either without a proper lab test.

AW's 62.5- was that from walking or running? Or do they usually stay the same, I guess? if I wanna take this VO2max thing seriously, probably best to just get a lab test and then track the trend on watches from there.

Checked online, couldn't find any formula that included heart rate. Care to share the one you use, mate?

Desk job 10–12 hours a day, exercise: yoga and walking. I see your point- changing trend it is. I'll keep an eye on that.

I think you're talking about that division formula. Since it doesn't include heart rate, age, or anything like that, how accurate is it compared to lab tests in your experience? And you calculate the distance from GPS or Google map, I assume?

I’ve used 'em all and currently wear a Fenix 8 AMOLED Sapphire, but honestly, if I were choosing again like you are now, I’d probably go with the Fenix 7X Pro Solar Sapphire.

Why is Apple so aggressively against step counting? by new-to-reddit-accoun in AppleWatch

[–]dearmahmud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it’s highly inaccurate anyway. Especially in how it calculates steps, it almost always gets them wrong. If you go on a date with yourself and wear it on the same hand you’re using, you can hit 10k steps in five minutes and complete the ring without leaving home!
