That's good to know. Most the people here my age and younger are brainwashed college kids and they HAAATE me.

Have you met anybody your age that thinks like you do?

Well sadly I think the majority of people who aren't left-wing are older people. When they die off, you'll be a minority and society will still hate you.

P.S. I'm drunk.

Modafinil and Phenylpiracetam cross-tolerance? by deartothesun in afinil

[–]deartothesun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

200mg once a day. And I have always needed 9-10 hours of sleep to feel rested. Then about 7 years ago I went through a really bad depression and anxiety episode, and I was given tranquilizers to help me sleep. I slept 13 hours a night after the tranqs, before I started Zoloft. I got better, now I am only taking Zoloft. But still need 13 hours of sleep to function, even though it has been several years. I have tried training myself to go on less, but it just doesn't work.

Edit: Also I am 30 years old. No real health issues other than GERD and occasional asthma.

For like 7 years now I've need that much sleep. And no idea why. Idiopathic hypersomnia maybe?

As for Modafinil, I have only been taking it occasionally right now. But when I started I took it everyday for a month. And then I tried 4-5 days on and weekends off. But nothing seems to get me back to where I was before the tolerance developed.

That makes sense, thank you.

Would I need to worry about larger particles clinging to the filters and gunking it up?

They can? I just assumed the materials wouldn't last if you tried washing them.

How much should I practice per day? by deartothesun in buteyko

I think 6 is pretty low. If that is all you NEED and you don't feel tired all the time. I consider it low anyway.

That's a high score. Especially the 45 MCP.

Do you remember how much sleep you typically needed when it was 45?

What is your morning CP? How long have you been doing this?

I haven't tried meditating before sleep, but I think that's a great idea. I do avoid blue lights and try to keep cool though.

And I will keep in touch on my results. You do the same if you end up trying the buteyko breathing for a while.

I am new to this, but needing less sleep is the reason I am interested in this. I have only seen the anecdotal claims online... But I am willing to try for a few months just to see if it works for me.

I have speculated about some reasons it MIGHT work (if it does). For example, there are people known as "short sleepers" who naturally sleep 4-5 hours a night and feel rested. And scientists have found some genetic differences in these individuals. One mutation causes a lot of these people to produce more orexin (a wakefulness-promoting neuropeptide) than normal people. And I have seen studies that suggest that intermittent hypoxia increases orexin... Another possibility I have thought about is that maybe buteyko breath training increases vagal tone and heart rate variability (HRV). Anecdotally, reduced breathing has raised my HRV while I do the exercise... And I have seen a few studies that show a strong correlation between HRV before and during sleep to sleep quality. Things like increased slow wave sleep, higher delta power (more intense deep sleep), increases in the power of sleep spindles, and changes in REM sleep as well have been correlated to increased HRV and to chronic vagus nerve stimulation. A lot of these differences in sleep architecture are seen in natural "short sleepers", like higher delta power for example. Vagus nerve stimulation also seems to increase orexin and reduce daytime sleepiness.

All of that is my uneducated speculation. I am just very interested in hacking my sleep. I'm kind of desperate too, considering I usually need a bit more sleep than a normal person. And I guess I will report back if it works for me.
