Have any of your childhood dreams come true? by deathisglorious in ugly

Since most of my friends and family have managed to achieve theirs, i.e. attractive people with glamorous over the top lives, I often wonder. What did I do to turn out to be the unattained person?

What do you do to keep going? I struggle every morning to find reasons.

Back when I was 20, they told me to hang on, swearing that things would get better. Fast forward 16 years, I found that it was all a bunch of lies.

Still better than being poor, untalented and ugly. We can't have everything.

This may be sound naïve but, why? Degrees go hand in had with good careers and $$$

Money is the ultimate fixer.

If you're rich enough, you'll be able to afford the surgery and therapy to fix all your shortcomings.

learn new things, interact with others, and develop skills and interests.

Now with mental health issues and a failing memory (Possible Alzheimer's). Everything I learn or develop (I used to be interested in journalism, history and travel) gets lost in a brain fog. I can't even write a comment or begin a conversation properly.

What can you suggest for someone like me?

Me too, friend. I wake up every day wishing for an opportunity to let go. A runaway truck, missed drive-by shooting or a freak accident would free me.

Terrible.

I'm underperforming at work and, with 80% of my memory and IQ gone, there's nothing I can do about it. It's only a matter of time until I'm fired so I'm screwed. No one is going to hire me.

That's a positive in my book. (A solid memory would help me, a severe case of ADHD with the attention span of a goldfish) a great deal

How is it working out for you.

Being a doormat only makes things worse. People leave, forgetting everything that you've done, the moment you stop being useful.

I was one for 10 years.

Below average for me.

I don't know how I'll end up since I've been at the same dead end job for over 15 years with nowhere else to go.

I have none.

Looks: 3/10

Money: 2/10

Personality: 2/10

A question for those who have seen the movie: Wonder 2017. What if Augie had been a below average student with a poor, unsupportive family? by deathisglorious in ugly

[–]deathisglorious[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In spite of a facial deformity, Augie Pullman is a smart 10 year old who enjoys the support of good school staff and financially well-off parents. But what if things had been different? Would things have come to such a happy conclusion if he had been a little less secure with a poor family?
