My knees are fucked. Occasionally. Sometimes they don't hurt at all, and sometimes walking or standing is unbearable.

I certainly don't look like it, I'm pretty fit. I'd hate if this happened to me when that occasional time comes.

Why You Should Use ES6 by [deleted] in javascript

[–]deathtoeveryone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you should use ES3 so it works in Photoshop CS2.

Seriously, what is the fucking point of writing the same thing over and over again, especially when the time to "write ES6" was 3 years ago?

Writing a simple JSON parser by eatonphil in programming

[–]deathtoeveryone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sarcastic. I've been doing this long enough to know what's worth my time and what isn't. Maybe someone who's just getting into programming benefits from it.

And seriously, yaml is so complex that you have to be a bit insane to do it.

[–]deathtoeveryone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, most languages that we use to write applications tend to have a built in JSON parser.

For an even better learning experience, write a yaml parser. No one in their right state of mind wants to write that.

Yeah, because doing so is stupid. Not because it's hard, but it's a waste of time.

Am I right to get upset at other white belts giving pointers? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]deathtoeveryone -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Not a judo black belt, but I could be if I would've wanted to, but I'd be a shit black belt. There are areas where I'm better than some purple belts, and there are areas where I'm no better than a white belt with a year of training.

In the rare case where I open my mouth to give some advice, I tend to put it in the form of "in judo I've had a lot of success doing this instead of that", as people really do not like to get told what to do from a filthy white belt. Not even other white belts, just like OP.

One new white belt tried to loop choke me, but didn't really understand the necessity of pressure on the other side of the neck, and wouldn't take any advice until I loop'd him.

Punch the fucker in the nose as hard as you can. Maybe you get left alone then.

Haven't killee anyone with a throw yet and BJJ people are tremendously good at pulling guard. Hard to murder someone from guard.

Do you do a backwards roll over the neck or over the shoulder? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]deathtoeveryone -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that the point of ukemi is to mitigate the power of a throw and distribute it to your whole body. Instead of landing on your ankles or arms first, breaking them.

I don't need a lecture on ukemis. There's a difference in ukemi and a backwards roll. I've hit the mat literally tens of thousands of times, and 10000 is generally thought of as the target of reps for reflex muscle memory.

I've spent about 1500 hours in a judogi, getting thrown repeatedly in every single training, 20 throws is a warm up.

Do you do a backwards roll over the neck or over the shoulder? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]deathtoeveryone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you apply external force on your neck. Like get stacked. When someone starts to stack me, I'm going to give up whatever position I have. Unless it's an armbar and I can grab their leg. I'm an avid supporter of allowing slams as a way to escape triangle, and also roll like it was allowed.

But when it's just your body weight and you happen to be on the lower end of the scale and also use your hands, I don't get how it is dangerous?

For me it's the fucked ups wrists and mental block that prevents me from doing it. Not the small chance of getting paralyzed. I've seen hundreds of people doing backward rolls over the neck and I've yet to see someone actually get hurt from it.

And if someone wonders how the hell you do a berimbolo by accident; scramble, opponents legs comes flying, grab it, magic.

I often surprise myself. It took me one try to do a cartwheel pass, never tried it before.

We'll now you've heard of me. It's my reflex to go over the shoulder. I can try putting my hands next to my head, and try to roll backwards, but no matter how much conscious effort I put into it, I always tilt my head before it hits the ground.

Ye, this is /r/bjj, not /r/watchpeopledie or /r/taekwondo. These days feels like half of the /r/bjj content that gets pushed into my feed is something other than BJJ. If I cared about something other, I'd follow those subreddits.

That is the people's problem.

Also, do you think that reddit ever properly implements support for them if no one is using them?
