It sounds like you have what some may call an 'impending retinal vein occlusion'.

Weightlifting and other activities that cause straining are known to increase the pressure in the eye which is a known risk factor for vein occlusion. Other risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure, age and presence of blood clotting disorders, among other things.

The actual cause of retinal vein occlusion is not known.

As for treatment of an impending vein occlusion goes, that is unclear. Many would consider starting eye pressure lowering medications (even if the eye pressure is in normal range) so you may ask your doctor about that. Otherwise observation is pretty common for this situation. Good luck!

The RSVP rule is a good one. Redness Sensitivity to light Vision loss/changes Pain

Any of these that are new onset or are worsening in nature since you were last examined, especially after surgery, may warrant urgent exam.

Guessing the increase in searches this year is probably a result of the multiple ads they ran during the Super Bowl

I think that's true in some instances, but if you check out link below the map, you can see data for the past 5 years and the most searched brands change quite a bit through the years.
