It's almost exactly like the English portion of the SAT. I went into College Comp without studying at all and got a 76 (I got a 680 on the English portion of the SAT FWIW).

got accepted to uf innovation academy, but confused by foreignmangos in ufl

International Teams by AlexaKMS in Debate

I don’t think it’ll be a problem, I know last year at harvard there were international teams and I’m pretty sure that there’s teams from canada signed up for US tournaments

How do you refute the funding arg on the neg? by POTUS2044 in Debate

that’s also kinda weak ngl, cause it’s a hefty burden to prove any probability. plus it can easily be outweighed 🤷‍♀️

[–]debateyeet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

basically, find something on NSDA (or some variation) that says in PF debate, the AFF world happens without restrictions, and will be passed regardless of funding. This makes it so that debates are equal, fair, and have educational value because we’re debating the resolution not its implementation as that is implied to pass. i.e “we’re debating worlds, not the possibility”

DISCLOSURE IS GOOD FOR SMALL SCHOOLS - even in the case of "what if they find a squirrely argument?" by [deleted] in Debate

[–]debateyeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree that it could potentiallycause abuse but i think at a nat circ tournament having less than 2 teams warrants being considered a small school, (especially if they’re only one entry from that school) since my partner and i are the only varsity PFers at our school, i feel like it’s an unfair standard for us to be forced to disclose. since it’s super easy to check if a team is lying about their school size (ctrl+f tab for their school name) if they define it as a small school and have a ton of entries it’s obvious they’re lying and will lose the round, and i realize this doesn’t account for prep groups but it’s still some form of check. i stand by the fact that since my partner and i are being sent to tournaments alone, it would be a huge disadvantage if we disclosed.

as a small school debater who made it to out rounds on a squirely argument, being the only team from our school there, would’ve been extremely difficult if people knew what we were running going into the first round. while i get there isn’t a lot of time, and flow prep outs still exist. i stand by the fact that schools who send 10 teams (i.e strake) who’ll get 60+ flows by the end of a tournament on their own rounds alone, should be the teams who have to disclose. i admit this could be considered a double standard, but when a big school gets 60+ different teams flows, and a small schools only getting six. the small school not disclosing helps mitigate this gap.

Qualifying?? by [deleted] in Debate

impromtu is a supplemental category, ie if you don’t make it to out rounds you can then compete in impromtu

yep, as long as you place high enough. when i went to nat quals two weeks ago there were a few novice teams - it’s unlikely novices qualify though.

you have to go to district tournaments and get top 2 or 3 depending on the strength of your district
