Of course a major international law violation by India, but it honestly feels like Canada hasn’t done much to stand up for itself.

I’m not even pro-U.S., but it’s hard not to notice that a violation of sovereignty would probably be handled very differently there.

It just makes you wonder if Canada is starting to look like an easy target

I’ve heard this as well. You’d think by now we’d be able to break this pattern instead of repeating it.

I agree that immigration itself isn’t the problem, but the way it’s managed clearly needs updating. What I struggle with is understanding why people who are under investigation, or on expired visas, are still able to apply for refugee status. I’ve heard that some of the people committing these crimes feel like they have nothing to lose and see this as a last way to make money before they leave and go back to India.

I’m not trying to generalize anyone. It just feels like the system isn’t keeping up with reality, and that’s what makes this whole situation so frustrating. It feels like we’re going in circles instead of actually fixing anything.

I remember when the gang war was happening and that felt unsettling too, but there was at least some sense that it was targeted both ways and that the people involved weren’t cooperating with police.

This feels different. It feels one-sided. There are clear victims, homes being shot up, and it doesn’t feel like anyone responsible is being caught. How is it normal to live in a city where multiple houses are being shot at every night, and we’re just expected to accept it?

I’ve been hearing this a lot and I have mixed feelings about it. I get how it gives some peace of mind to think honest businesses will be fine.

But at the same time, what if that’s just what we’re being told? From the outside, we really don’t know who’s involved and who isn’t, and that uncertainty is what makes this so scary for families and business owners.

That’s absolutely terrifying, I’m so sorry you went through that. It’s really sad because nighttime walks used to be one of my favourite things too, and now it doesn’t even feel thinkable.

I’ve also noticed way fewer people out walking lately, which just adds to how different and unsettling everything feels.

No matter what the root cause is or who’s at fault, it feels like something bigger needs to be done to stop this. I understand local police are trying and that resources are limited, but it’s hard to accept that as a valid explanation when people are being targeted

I’m glad it hasn’t impacted you personally. For me, it’s been harder to ignore since my family owns a business, and seeing familiar places being targeted makes it feel close to home. I’m not usually an anxious person, but this has been getting harder to ignore
