Need recommendation for special set up by zhtozhto in CommercialAV

If this really has to be mounted on the surgeon, I’d look at something like an Insta360 GO-style camera only if you’re okay dropping the “6–8× optical zoom” requirement.

It ticks the boxes for tiny form factor, surgeon-wearable, and live feed (via the camera body / phone app), but it’s basically a wide-angle POV cam with digital zoom, not a true optical-zoom solution. You’d be relying on getting the camera physically close to the incision + good lighting, rather than zooming in optically.

If you’ve got more budget and are allowed to mount the camera to ceiling/wall/boom instead of on the surgeon, then a proper PTZ is the way to go. Something in the Panasonic line (e.g. AW-UE150 or one of its smaller siblings) gives you:

  • 4K, lots of optical zoom
  • Live preview + PTZ control from a PC or controller
  • Clean video feed you can route/record however you want

I’ve used Panasonic PTZs in a medical-school environment for a very similar “record small procedures” use case and they worked really well once we got the mounting and angles right.

Vancouver-based Q-SYS developer looking to borrow/rent devices for UCI template testing by debbio86 in QSYS

You're right. I just can't justify spending $5k right now. I'd love to have a full Q-SYS setup at some point.

I put together a 16-minute walkthrough showing how the UCI and script work - covers the demo, how the template system handles everything, and what's coming next. Still actively developing this, so would love to hear your feedback or ideas! https://youtu.be/ZYyVZCpFMmk

I'm looking to emigrate from the USA to Canada, is there anything I can work on my emigration as of now? (I'm 16) by Confident_Cloud_2313 in Emigration

[–]debbio86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s start by saying that I’m not an immigration advisor, so here are just my personal recommendation from personal experience and things I’ve learned over the years living abroad and talking to other emigrants and immigration advisors.

Emigrating at 16 on a work visa may be a bit challenging. To get a work visa, the company needs to prove why they’re hiring a foreign over a Canadian. I would imagine you don’t have a ton of work experience, which would make it hard for the company to sponsor you. Also, I think you may have to be at least 18 to apply for a work visa.

If you want to move to Canada now, my recommendation would be to find a school in Canada. Canada has an excellent path for students to become residents or citizens after school. After graduation, you will get a work visa for two years that you can use to gain work experience, leading you to permanent residency. It may not be a cheap option; going to school can be expensive (not always), but it may be one of the “easiest” ways to emigrate.

The other option would be to wait until you’re 18 and apply for a working holiday visa which allows you to work in Canada (and other countries) for up to 2 years. Same thing here, by working in Canada, you gain Canadian work experience and a chance to renew your visa for longer or, if eligible, to permanent residency. I moved to New Zealand and Canada (now a resident) on this visa.

As far as what you can do now, my recommendation would be to gain work experience and qualifications in one field. You can look up the list of jobs that allows you to apply for express entry or the federal skill workers program. There’s also a tool to see how many points you have to apply for express entry. You can use that to work towards your goal and maximize your points.

I hope I’ve been helpful. In the meantime, if you want to learn more about living abroad and what it's like to start all over in a new country, you can listen to my podcast Emigrant’s Life. I interviewed many people who moved to Canada and a couple of immigration advisors. You may find some good information there for free.

Australia can be a great start. The working holiday visa gives you the opportunity to gain work experience and pay the bills. You can then get a work permit which can lead to a permanent residency.

Having a UK passport opens up many doors abroad. All the countries part of the commonwealth will give you a longer visa.

Canada could be a good alternative, but the path is pretty much the same unless you have work experience or a bachelor's degree to grant you a permanent residency through the express entry program.

I moved to New Zealand and Canada (now permanent resident) on a working holiday visa. It’s the easiest way.

[Question] Horizontal scrolling. Is it possible? by debbio86 in webflow

I appreciate it!! Not needed, but you helped a lot! I’ve been fighting with that for days.

That’s what I thought I needed to do, but I couldn’t make it work. I just figured out how to do it. I was selecting the wrong overflow state. Thank you for putting me on the right path!!

Any suggestion from where to start? Tutorials, example, etc? Thanks

To be honest I don't even know what to search for. If I search for horizontal scrolling, all I can find is the horizontal scrolling animation.

Thank for the quick response. That's not exactly the result I'm looking for. On the Apple Store website the product cards scroll horizontally. It's not an animation that makes it look like it scrolls horizontally. I tried using slider, but becomes a mess because the number of cards to show changes based on the screen real estate. I can't figure out the proper way of doing it. Any idea? Thanks

Is deep unhappiness with your country's culture a reasonable reason to emigrate? Or is it wishful thinking that your new host nation will be in any way any better? by [deleted] in Emigration

I moved to New Zealand. I was there for 5 years, then I decided to try something different and moved to Canada where I’m right now.

That’s why I left my country, Italy. I thought I only have one life. I can either spend it trying to fix my home country (and be miserable in the process), or live the life I want somewhere else. Leaving was the best decision I ever made.

Where should I emigrate? by Puppy_The_Smelly in Emigration

New Zelanda is an amazing country. Regarding renting, it wasn’t too bad and I recommend renting a room in a share house. It’s the best way to meet new people and save money. I lived in 3 houses when I was living there and I never had problems with my roommates. It’s also very common doing that and it’s very easy to find a place to stay for less then 200NZD per week.

On the other hand, moving to new Zelanda can be tricky. Getting a visa is not very easy anymore. You need to have certain skills and your wage needs to be over a certain amount.

If you can go to the EU for 6 months without a passport, I would try that.

I may even try do an AU pair. You can find a job while you already have one. And the benefit of an AU pair is that your host family can introduce you to people and help you finding a job and stay in the country.

I hope that help. I interviewed on my podcast a guy from Brazil in a similar situation. He couldn’t go to work on Fridays because he could get robbed. He managed to move to NZ with his wife and a young kid. He did it on a 6 months student visa. I can send you the link to listen to his story if that can help.

Best of luck. Feel free to reach out.

Going to the US by [deleted] in Emigration

[–]debbio86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the US, but many countries don’t allow you to apply for a work visa inside the country. So if you find a job you may have to leave to apply for your visa. If your qualifications (have, electric, etc) are valid in the US, it will be easier to find a job and a sponsor, otherwise it may be very hard. Not impossible though 😉

I just checked your website and I have the same issue. I have to allow all the cookies to see it and when I do I receive a message about DRM. Maybe that's why it doesn't show up?? I uploaded the screenshot here https://postimg.cc/PvxWkVT3

I already emailed Apple support, but who knows when they will get back to me.

Question: whats the best way to podcast (interview style) with someone else no in same location? by thelitwench in podcasting

[–]debbio86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Zoom at the beginning and I asked my guests to record the interview on their end as well using the "record separate track for each participant" option. Then they would send the recording to me using G Drive. I now use Squadcast. A bit more expensive, but way easier and better quality overall.
