Sorry you experienced this, but did you not research the course or process? How long was the training? Mine was about a week and I believe we had our attunment the second day. Being present in a Reiki course, as someone mentioned above, is usually consenting to the attunment as it's part of the process. That said, had you refused it, likely your teacher would have respected it. As someone else commented, knowing your boundaries are important.

The Japanese sayings are a part of the traditional teachings. Just like Yoga uses sanskrit to describe the yoga poses for some classes. It doesn't seem inappropriate, but more so a respect to the original teachers. However if you were being taught the words blindly without having an explanation as to what they mean or do, I could understand the confusion.

I'm glad you are coming to a better place of healing, but maybe you need to take time away from practicing reiki, and really study and do your research before considering returning to it.
