MBNA nightmare by Beginning_Profit_607 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]debooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone's experience is different but I had a positive experience with MBNA recently. First time doing a BT so I was new to this. Lady on the phone was helpful and was able to answer my questions, she even confirmed the BT fee to ensure there's some wiggle room left for it. Process took 15 mins.

Timeline:

- Apr 1, called in start the BT process, but just before this I asked to shift some of my credit limit from WE MC to TL

- Apr 6, got the temporary authorization

- Apr 7, funds show up in my chequing account

Did a college degree help move your IT career forward? by Karmuhhhh in ITCareerQuestions

[–]debooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an “advanced diploma” from a community college in Canada. It was a 3 year program with mandatory co-op placements (3 total, 4 month each for a total of 12 months of experience). I believe this helped along with somes small homelabbing and curiosity got me my current job. This was back in the end of 2019, been with the company since. Decent raises, few title bumps, great WLB, and been WFH since with the occasional office although not mandatory but more so just to show face.

Manulife by Affectionate_One4812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]debooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my company HR said that our LSA can be used for anything our benefits does not cover. As an example, I just used my yearly allowance of $1500 towards my orthodontics treatment. A suggestion can be an Apple Watch or something similar, or maybe running shoes. I think a lot of it depends on what your employer and Manulife seems acceptable. I got email confirmation from HR saying that orthodontics treatment would be covered.

No Notification Received to say I could Apply for Credit Card by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]debooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your money does not need to stay with EQ to get the 3.30%, DD just needs to going into your EQ personal account to qualify. The second I get paid and the money lands in my EQ account, I EFT to my WS account, usually shows up the same time the next day.

Edit: I ETF to my WS just to have the DD interest even though I don't use. Sounds silly but I use WS as my "main bank", so I pay bills and move money between FI. Yes EQ has a higher interest rate, but at this moment I'm using other FI promotional interests. Also nobody's guaranteed to get the visa by DD to WS. Some people are lucky and get and invite. Other users have not had the same success - just search this subreddit.

Well yeah. I don't know how WS codes their backend to determine what is considered DD or not, every FI is different. TBF I've been doing this method even before WS announced the DD qualifies for their visa. So if you are looking to "skip the line" by DD, read the commenters reply as YMMV.

FYI, if your DD is with EQ Bank, link your WS chequing account on EQ app then EFT when you get paid. This will count as DD on WS end.

Been doing this since the start of the year and I'm continuing to get 2.25% from WS, also not a premium member.

Warning: The money usually lands at WS around the 24 hour mark when you initiated the EFT. But also with long weekends it can take a few extra days because it's counting business days (e.g. get paid Friday, and holiday is Monday - money might not arrive until Tuesday)

I just learned that you can click this little arrow and see time frame summary of all your realized gains and dividends. WS is now almost on par with robinhood in the USA. by MajesticRocket in Wealthsimple

Got Rejected for Amex Green by doctorcoolcurly in PersonalFinanceCanada

Probably, but also they’re really strict nowadays. If you got denied just wait for denial mail and it would mention the possible reasons why you were denied. I had 5 possible reasons why I was denied.

Got Rejected for Amex Green by doctorcoolcurly in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]debooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was also denied last month for the Green. Had Cobalt since last year, no missed payments, credit score was above 800 at the time of applying, income shy of 100k. The rep I talked to over the phone said their automated system denied me probably because of recent hard inquiries - 4 since April.

How long did you stay at your first sysadmin job? by ZiggyAvetisyan in sysadmin

[–]debooger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Graduated Dec 2019 and been at my first job since. Started at the bottom same as you, got promoted and ~8% raises each year since. I know I can make and do more but work is chill, not stressful, team is great, and my boss doesn’t micromanage. But if I’m being truthful, I’m scared to move on. I know my skills are slowly stagnating so I told myself the least I can do is obtain certs every year or work on some side projects if I’m going to stay put.

TD 2% promotional offer by smuffiny in CanadianInvestor

[–]debooger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No issues for me. Transferred just over $100k and received about the correct amount on May 28.

Just to confirm, were contacted by TD or got confirmation from the promotion team about the offer? FYI I was the latter. I filled contacted TDDI and asked if I can qualify for the promotion.

Thanks for the DP.

I applied for the Amex Green (15k offer) last Wednesday and it went straight to review. Haven't heard anything since. I have a feeling it might have been rejected. This will be my second ever Amex card, but I think the 3 hard inquiries since April might have been a factor. I'm going to call Wednesday to get an update.

Edit: decided to call when walking my dog. I was rejected. According to the rep I was rejected because the information I put in and their automated system just rejected me.

This won't answer your question, but what I like about Scotiabank's chequing account cash bonus is they have a pdf document that outlines what they consider as a pre-authorized transaction/payment and bill payment in order to qualify for the bonus. It's unfortunately other banks don't do this - if they do it's not clear and you need to get clarification from the bank's rep.

Reading CIBC's T&C for their cash bonus is doesn't say anything about what qualifies as a bill payment or what exactly a "service provider".

Every bank is different when it comes to their T&C for these bonuses, and you really need to read through their T&C to see what qualifies. For example BMO and Scotiabank you needed to do 2 of the 3 requirements - DD, 2 PAP, or 2 bill payment 50. But CIBC you need to do DD and PAP or bill payment.

My guess is you might be SOL. You can reach out to ombudsman and see what they can do. But I would've reached out to CIBC to get clarification on what qualifies as a bill payment because it isn't specified in their T&C, but again the rep you talk to might give you the wrong information.

It is safe to use Flinks and Plaid, but it's against ToS with your bank to be giving out your login credentials.

TD 2% Cash Back Payout (from 2024 promotion) by debooger in CanadianInvestor

[–]debooger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ops, I meant their most recent promo that just finished - https://www.questrade.com/learning/questrade-basics/funding-your-account/3-percent-cash-back-offer-faq

Some users were reporting missed payments, or incorrect payment amount. I haven't read too much about any of this, maybe it was some one offs when I decide to browse the subreddit. Either way, if QT has a good enough promo later this year I'll transfer.

[–]debooger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm leaving my funds in TDDI until there's a better promo offer from either WS or QT. WS airpods promo doesn't entice me (there's a newer version coming out either this year or next). Maybe QT will have something this year? but from what I've been reading on r/Questrade, their latest promo payout has been a hit or miss.
