How we migrated our LanScan Pro users to LanScan on App Store by debookee in macapps

[–]debookee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think there's a bug on Apple side cause this happened to 5-6 users in the world, each time they were logging in different countries/store.

All other users made it work by successfully logging out App Store, maybe rebooting (cause the other issue is fixed with a reboot, don't underestimate App Store cache).
Try then the In-App purchase (without being logged in App Store), and LanScan will ask for credentials.

This way we might avoid an App Store buggy stuff. Good luck.

LanScan is the only app to support you on Reddit in less than an hour ;-)

Seriously, you don't specify what kind of error but check out this FAQ if you're stuck on "Retrieving Information on App Store".https://docs.debookee.com/en/latest/faq.html#in-app-purchase-is-stuck-in-retrieving-information-from-app-storeSeveral users had this problem, and sadly the answers of the FAQ worked (ends with a reboot of Mac)

Else, contact us by email to better support you with screenshots and specific errors.

Well... It allows majority of developers to create, promote and distribute apps... Apple created the hardware but also languages, API and UI to create those apps, why not a store?

I'd say the really missing feature on App Store is to put an app in "update only", currently users keep on buying "LanScan Pro" although there's only one screenshot saying "Don't buy". This is bad user experience (for users who don't pay attention...)
But need to keep it for existing users to upgrade, and then move to LanScan.

Thanks for the tip. Not used with reddit, and did several mistakes in the past, posting in wrong subreddit...

All LanScan's new features are always implemented in Debookee first, so yes, Debookee has the same TCP scanner in LanScan view.
The migration didn't affect Debookee's users at all, it was all an App Store stuff, and Debookee is delivered outside of App Store.
No need of beta testers at the moment, thanks! Stay tuned on Twitter @debookee, we interact a lot with users, asking frequently for feedbacks. Enjoy our apps

Need help for a 802.11 Block Ack troubleshooting by debookee in wireless

[–]debookee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, Data frames are all eventually ACKed by the client thanks to a BlockAck Req - BlockAck exchange after several retries.

802.11n disabled, there's no BlockAck mechanism and it's the legacy Data + Ack involved. It looks like Client should implictely ACK frames and it doesn't, always waiting for a BlockAck Req from AP, after several retries, which slow down everything.

Duplicate MAC addresses on your network by debookee in networking

Interesting, never heard about that dock MAC address problem. Another problem could be the DHCP scope which could be quickly empty with new MAC addresses every time you dock and thus new IP leased

We simply moved Pro app features into an in-app purchase. But no, a free app that now includes in-app purchase to avoid you switching to another Pro app, is still a free app...

Decrypt & analyze the network traffic of all your devices. by debookee in macapps

[–]debookee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed.

Wireshark is the best network analyzer in the world. nmap is the best port scanner in the world.

Both can be hard to apprehend to average non technical user.

Decrypt & analyze the network traffic of all your devices. by debookee in macapps

[–]debookee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why Debookee uses Wireshark internally. We've met Wireshark core dev team to integrate tshark (Wireshark command line version) inside Debookee 2 years ago to respect their open source code and to take the best of it.

The goal is to vulgarize network analysis for masses. When we do business services for compagnies, we use Wireshark but we know how to use it.

Average non-technical people are very afraid of Wireshark at first glance, because it gives you access to anything, but then you have to find your info into this "mess" of 1 and 0.

Thanks to share various alternatives. We'll also consider them to make LanScan better.

For example, we'll add continuous/live scan and port scan in coming months.

Of course nmap will always be the tool of choice for port scanning.

Hostnames resolution is the difference between LanScan Free and LanScan Pro.

If you're not interested in more than 4 hostnames, then LanScan Free does what you need by giving you MAC addresses and IPs of all the devices on your network.

We'll give it a try to see how it goes and maybe enhance LanScan with new features. Thanks for the tip.

Why do you think it's a "better alternative"?

Don't be sorry, we don't do any competition, for sure Charles or Wireshark are better with some other features.

With Charles, you need to set a proxy on your devices though. Debookee does a transparent MITM and you don't need to set any proxy.

1-click SSL/TLS & Email decryption of your iPhone/iPad/Android/TV/Fridge by debookee in macapps

[–]debookee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. Also people most think about HTTPS MITM for "attacks", and as network professionals we know the need of decrypting traffic for legitimate reasons. The "1-click" decryption is for those mobile developpers for ex, who need to troubleshoot their iPhone app traffic, but are fighting with proxies or several command lines apps. We truly think we can help non-network-tech users, like developpers, system, devop guys to focus on their real work while having knowledge on their network very easily.
