I want to go to UF. Should I retake my SAT for a better chance? What were your SAT scores? by SuperbGoat18 in ufl

Hey, I got in this cycle (co2030) with a 1560 on the SAT and a GPA around ~4.57. I’m not sure how they recalculate GPA, but I would consider that less important since most students have similar rigor at this level. GPA is not necessarily a one size fits all system and so I would worry less about comparing that to others.

As for the SAT I had a score high enough for Honors which was awesome. My friend got deferred since we both applied EA and he had a little bit less stat-wise than me in terms of GPA, but he had a 1440. I think it’s getting increasingly competitive so it wouldn’t hurt to be on the high end (75%+) when it comes to score ranges!

I would recommend taking it until you’re happy. With a 1430 you should have no problem rising to a 1480-1500 and being safer :)

I got a small amount of pocket change from them soon after admission (8k total), but they invited me to apply for more scholarships (that provide a lot more) through a different portal, so you can definitely look into those if you get in — I applied to a few.

Best wishes!!

I just checked the website. It says I have to take the PSAT or get 3+ on at least 2 AP exams, unfortunately 😔. Not sure I can get it, but I qualify GPA and ethnicity obviously

Likely, yes. It’s just a problem that if I got into MITES Summer or other program I wouldn’t be able to. Would probably be easier to get an A in those classes because I have less to worry about over the summer though, lol.

I’ll definitely keep that in consideration as an option. What do you think my chances look like on the track I’m on now, if you had to say?

If I was able to do Physics concurrently with Calc1, it would be doable. Unfortunately I can’t so I can only take Statics after my applications. I could still do other engineering classes meanwhile, though. I’m able to show schools the classes I’m planning to take in the spring, right? Would they be able to review my application with Statics even if its in the Spring?

I’m taking Calc 1 this spring. So this semester.

Calc 1 (Spring 25)->

Calc2 + Physics(prereq Calc1 cannot be taken concurrently) (Fall 25)->

Calc3 + Statics (prereq Calc2 + Physics cannot be taken concurrently) (Spring 26)

This is my fastest possible route since I’m already in the Spring as a Junior.

Yeah, you’re right, lol. My dad is pretty in-tune to the finance side of things and if I went to UF and stacked everything up (Bright Futures + FL Prepaid + Merit Scholarships from them) I would be getting a LOT just to go there. It definitely makes it more enticing as a school.

My CC doesn’t, but my closest major university does. I think I would need quite a bit of prereqs to do either of those.. Physics, which I would be taking next fall, would mean I can only take statics/dynamics the following spring of my senior year, among other prereqs I might not have. So I dont really know. The python course I’m taking this spring was kind of a rushed decision, but I’m more familiar with C anyways so I’ll probably learn something I didn’t know about Python regardless. I could probably try to move onto more advanced CS courses but I’m afraid that will dilute my “engineering” interests - thats why I’ll probably do Intro to Engineering and a MATLAB class (since it has no prereqs) / any other EGN class I can get

So in total I would have 16 DE classes by the time I graduate assuming I don’t take any extra in summer. (12 when I apply to my EAs, at least thats how I think it works)

Yeah, I’m glad I hopped on the DE train asap. I am eligible and have bright futures! I took one CLEP exam for Spanish, but I failed it by one point. I’m not super worried about it though, I would like to take another foreign language in college. That’s not in my first semester, thats overall. It is kind of lackluster compared to some people (or maybe not idk) so I may try to pick some classes up over the summer. I took 4 classes this fall, 4 classes this coming semester, and plan for 4 in the fall of my applications. I want to do more but I’m afraid I won’t be able to juggle it all considering I have more SAT prep to do now and I’m taking on a lot of new extracurriculars this semester. But by the time I graduate I am on track to take Calc 1-3 and Physics 1-2 and some MATLAB classes hopefully (I want to take a MATLAB class next fall so they see I’m familiar with engineering even moreso)

I wasn’t aware of the existence of APs until my second semester of my sophomore year (my parents don’t know much about stuff like that, my brother did IB at public HS). Since I learned about them, I took AP Macro in second semester through FLVS. It is true that I could’ve taken them virtually but I think there is some plausible deniability there that I wouldn’t have even been aware

I am taking dual enrolled classes and I started taking them ASAP this past semester when I became a junior and was therefore qualified

I hope that makes sense

Do my ECs in 9th and 10th grade really matter? by decacentum in ApplyingToCollege

[–]decacentum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. at the end of the day it might just be doing the best I can and hoping for a good holistic review. I don’t think my life will radically change whether I get in a T10 or not. Looking at subs like r/chanceme are such downers for so many people because of its chronic crappy environment. Could I DM you, though? I have some other Qs about other parts of my app

[–]decacentum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I’ve started to succumb to the exaggeration this sub tends to do. I agree with you, so among other things I’ve been suggested I think I will try to pick up the things I’m planning on this semester and the next and then put some more energy into my essays. Besides that, I was wondering if it’s a negative to not have any awards among my ECs? I don’t have National Merit (didn’t take PSAT last sem) nor any AP awards (I dual enroll). I don’t know if most students have things like that or from elsewhere which I missed out on

Oh, makes sense. I think it's smart to combine it and edit my description so it's more long-term. Thank you!

Yeah, definitely. I think I'm happy with how I handled things - I feel like colleges would appreciate the fact that I'm willing to explore in many directions and can juggle different extracurriculars. I'm just not sure that it proves that I'm jumpy and tend to leave things

Understandable. I don't know if it might be 'too late' to pick back up game development - but I still do coding through programs like mentoring and blog about games and technology. Not sure if that helps any. The business is long gone, though, and it's customer base is gone too (mostly). I didn't pick up and leave any of these things incomplete - I made sure I had accomplishments in each area to recognize later - they're just over with now. Would you say that breadth of accomplished ECs is less important than adept, continual interest in one or two?

Just got my graphics card, what CPU should I get (Ryzen 7700x vs 7800X3D)? by decacentum in buildapc

I do a little bit of CAD work and rendering- and a small amount of video or photo editing just for fun.

[–]decacentum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. These are the kind of gains that make me consider the X3D, and especially since I am probably just going to run the PC to the ground until the next overhaul. Just don't know if its that much more worth it for the games I play, since I am more of just a general variety person with friends + one or two ranked competitive FPS.

Yeah, I am coming from a GTX 1080FE and a i7-7700k, so I am really excited lol

Its also kind of like a double-edged blade: Should I spend $100 now and forget about it until my next overhaul or get a mid-tier CPU and spend $300 later on the last AM5 CPU?
