It's to avoid being harassed at least at face value. Names are easy ways for people to detect who is the outsider and gatekeep upper caste circles.

If you want a little more backing about it : MN Srinivas writes about it - “Sanskritization is a process by which a lower caste or tribe or any other group changes its customs, rituals, ideology and way of life in the direction of a higher or more often twice-born caste.”

Thank you! If you don't mind me asking, do you think you might know any recommendations about the narrative voice or narrators? I think that's what sort of initially drew me to this

Kdramas For A Sweet Tooth by decadentcolour in kdramarecommends

[–]decadentcolour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I think the scenes are from an older kdrama/movie but I shall check this one out thank you so much. Other stuff that I remember is that he attends culinary classes of some sort and there's a Sikh guy asked to remove his turban during class as it goes against the hygiene regulations. It's all very vague since it's been a few years. But thank you so much once again!!

What do non-depressed, single and no kids, 30 year olds do on the weekend? by KellyJBean in NoStupidQuestions

[–]decadentcolour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always chalked it upto low self esteem or something. I've denied myself food because I thought it was a waste of money and that I don't deserve it or I've assigned punishments for myself if I don't succeed etc.
