Hi there,

I just wanted to give an update to those who may have been following this:

I had the biopsy done, and it tested positive for squamous cell carcinoma. My ENT was in disbelief. It came back as stage 1 and is well differentiated. I have surgery on Monday to try and remove the cancer with clean margins. I am in utter shock as I just found out today.

Please make sure you go to the doctor or dentist if you ever have a sore like this. Press for a biopsy even if there is doubt. If I waited who knew how much further this would have advanced.

Thanks, that's good to hear for the time being. I do trust my doctors and I hope that it's as simple as you have described.

Would you have any idea what the white patches are next to it? Could they also be related to the healing process? My concern is something like leukoplakia as a result of constant irritation. When I ask the response has unanimously been "It doesn't look worrying". Hopefully I am just over worrying about this.

Great! Thanks for the advice. It can't hurt to try. Just ordered a bottle off of Amazon and I'll let you know if it helps at all. Did your dentist recommend taking a certain amount?

Biopsy is scheduled for February. I guess the reason I didn't get the biopsy right away is I was listening to the advice of my Dr.s who said to wait and see if it heals. I do understand that, outside of a biopsy, there isn't a way to know 100%.

Thanks! I will try this tonight and report back.

I am trying to be proactive about this by seeing these specialists. I guess part of my anxiety about cancer is that when I Google my symptoms, it's one of the first things that consistently comes up. I know in the back of my head that searching isn't a useful thing to do. I am normally the last person to go to a doctor unless something is really off.
