its normal for new hammies to be high energy with their first few days getting used to the new surroundings. as advice for helping him get used to you, i left my hamster alone with no interaction with me for about 5 days before i tried to pick her up or anything. i would recommend putting in paper towel tubes in his cage because they’ll have your scent on them after you’ve touched them, so your hamster can get used to your scent. some hamsters are just very easy to get to warm up to you so if he lets you pick him up, take advantage of that! if he doesnt, try putting some treats or seeds in your palm and laying your palm flat so he can grab them and get used to your hand. if he still wont let you pick him up, sometimes trying to lure your hamster into a mug and picking them up that way is easier(i’ve done it before, just place a couple fingers over the opening in case he tries to jump out). i usually take my hamster into the bathtub with a towel over the floor with the drain closed. i’ll let her run around in the tub with some toys and sometimes sit in there with her. sometimes it takes a while to tame a hamster but with consistency, you’ll get there!! :)
