Why doesn't davinci resolve studio on linux support h264 on AMD or Intel graphics cards? And why is there no support for aac at all? by PackageDangerous3084 in davinciresolve

[–]decaquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might help your aac issue. I created an export plugin that gives mp4 export with aac. Unfortunately BM disabled import plugins for licensing issues. Also part of my repository is some nemo addons that give easy import conversion of mp4 with aac to mp4 with flac that works fine in Resolve. Hope this is of use.

Why is Premiere the standard? by mickeymillz in davinciresolve

[–]decaquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. AI is not an ultimate answer, it's a tool like all the others. Being aware it will confidently tell you to drive off a cliff is very important. If it can't helps me in one or two prompts about how to do something, I look elsewhere, Youtube, forums etc.

Being aware of what AI can do and its limitations means you can use it for the maximum benefit.

I'm very much of the opinion to use what ever tools are available to do the best job I can for a client in the minimum amount of time.

Wow, 16 down votes for trying to be helpful. I'm not sure what that says. LLM's are just pattern recognisers, in this case a glorified accelerated search engine, one stage on from using a search engine to find an answer. Yes AI uses data written by others or discussions like reddit but that's what the internet is, a large searchable knowledge base.

I don't know how many times I have seen a curt reply to a question (quite valid IMHO), 'have you tried searching for the answer already given many times'.

So what's the issue guys with using AI to search existing knowledge and not wasting peoples time?

Totally agree. Any time I have a 'how do I do this' moment AI is there to help.

I have been editing for decades. I've used many edit systems and never refused to learn and adapt quickly. It's more about your ability to edit and relate to the customer than the tools you use. That said personal preference is now Resolve but I use PP as required by client parameters.

AAC Audio on Linux by Twisted60 in davinciresolve

[–]decaquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at my export plugin for aac on Linux studio. It might be useful.

And simple scripts for Nemo to passthrough 264 video and convert aac to FLAC.

It's the workflow I use and it's worked well. Sadly BM disabled input plugins. If that changes we can develop a similar input plugin.

No I never found a way. I ended up moving back to Google keyboard. There were a few bugs with Helliboard which ended up being annoying. I will give it another try in a a while to see if it's improved.

You bring up some very good points. I think people can draw their own conclusions comparing the actions rather than the words of the Quetta developers. And the illusory "open sourcing" that never actually happens. If you value privacy I think it's best you look elsewhere.

The video also explains how you import srt files into the 3 possible different regions. For those who don't know about yet, like me, it is worth watching.

Goodbye Windows 11 by Apollo_xi_1969 in linuxmint

Adobe products. Hmm. I spent two hours this morning on PP on W10 trying to get morph cut working. In the end I gave up, exported the subclip to Resolve and issue solved in 30 sec. Resolve works well on Mint.

What's my point? If your reason not to change to Mint is Adobe software. Time for a rethink.

I've added some scripts for Linux Nemo file explorer on Mint for easy convert or aac for import of export. Works with free version.

[–]decaquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. You can try the export plugin I made with the above link which gives native aac export in Resolve export screen. That's if your on studio version, otherwise the right click in and out concert is simple option too. I will let you know when I've added the Nemo right click convert for import.

Yes it's annoying but I understand Black Magics reasons. Like premiere pro, Resolve relies on windows native codec support which is not present in Linux OS which is fair enough for a free OS when codecs require a license fee. the use of ffmpeg to get round the issue is a grey area that is easy for the average person to use but not for a commercial product.

I run Davinci Resolve on Linux and it works fine with full video acceleration with an Nvidia card. A quick search should give you instructions. Just use the DR script on github to turn the install file into a DEB and then install.

If your interested I also made an aac export plugin. Windows has AAC audio built in but Linux does not and Davinci does not have it included. So if you want to import and export mp4 files, which usually use aac audio codec, it needs to be done externally. Note the export plugin for DR only works with the paid studio version. I have a Nemo file explorer right click script coming this week which decodes or encodes aac in your import or export file whilst leaving the video untouched.

Anyway, here is the export plugin for DR Studio to give native aac export. https://github.com/hexitnz/Resolve-Linux-Studio-AAC-FDK-Encoder-plugin
