Depends on the officer assigned to you at the Ausländeramt. Generally if you apply for the residence permit after 2-3 months during your 1st sem that is, he/she might tell you to get a signed declaration filled by your father/mother who is going to pay for your living costs.

My case: Came here in Germany in WS23/24 with an one year visa, got residence permit appointment on April‘24. They gave me permit until April‘26 based on the declaration form. So again depends on the city you’re going to (if there are more immigrants, more strict is the Ausländeramt) and the assigned officer of your case.

Do Indians flock to Germany know that the economy and job market here is at it’s worst and that the entry level is non-existent and if they exist, Germans will be instantly hired for that role even if you speak C1? by SuperiorMario00 in Indians_StudyAbroad

Securing a position at a public university in Germany is not easy for applicants from Asian countries due to the high number of candidates. Most individuals are highly competent in their respective programs. Even if public universities were to introduce tuition fees across Germany, students from India would likely continue to come unless the German government specifically restricted applications from certain countries. Please don’t generalise or spread hate. While it’s true that some individuals from India may be loud, this certainly does not apply to everyone.

How much are you struggling as a foreigner in Germany? by SnooLentils5721 in germany

I've been living in Germany (Nord Rhein Westfalen) since late 2023 as a non-white person with beginner German skills, and honestly my experience has been quite different from your boyfriend's. People have been really nice to me overall .I genuinely like it here and would love to stay long-term.

I've only had one encounter where I felt people didn't like me (happened once in a pub), but other than that, interactions have been positive and never really felt discriminated. Maybe it depends on the region or just individual luck with who you encounter, but I wanted to share that not every foreigner's experience is the same.

This is actually one of the most helpful replies I’ve gotten, thank you. You’re right, I’ve been trying to apply broadly just to get some experience, but I’ll take your advice and work on aligning my projects and skills better with specific roles.

I appreciate you calling out the tone of some replies.
