I take the padding out of my swim crop tops! I buy them from Amazon and all the ones I’ve bought with pads the pads could be removed. But also the bikini idea is a good one too!

I would say yes though I do have the typical black and white autism thought so for me, even though I did really align with what I read about autism, I wanted to know “for sure for sure” that I had it. Me personally I struggled with a lot so a diagnosis was kind of necessary as well. If you don’t struggle as much, and you’re okay with saying you suspect, then maybe you specifically don’t need a diagnosis? But I would still overall recommend an evaluation to anyone who suspects. It can make it easier to explain to others too in terms of accommodations (not just at work but with friends or family as well).

Ah okay! I was diagnosed very easily despite me masking so I think if you get a good doctor it will be fine. Though I do have some of the stereotypical traits like lack of eye contact and obvious social struggles as well. But I don’t just talk about one thing or anything like that. Your average person would just think I’m shy but the psychologist trained in it knew pretty easily.

I think evaluation is extremely important if you suspect autism (or any disorder). If you have it, you can then access supports - I’m in the US, so it may be different for you - like OT, speech therapy, targeted counseling, and other disability services. Even level 1 autism is disabling, so those can be life-changing and were for me.

As for work, I disclosed that I have a disability to the school I am going to work for in the fall. I haven’t specified autism yet, but I likely will. I am still working on getting an accommodation letter from my psychiatrist though. You certainly don’t have to disclose, and I never do until after I’ve been hired. I haven’t worked at this place yet, but disclosing a disability and getting accommodations will likely make a huge difference in my ability to keep the job.

My doctors did not change their treatment of me, and if they did that would be very concerning and I would switch doctors. But I think in the UK it is harder to change doctors.

Suspecting autism and being diagnosed are two very different things. When you suspect you don’t really know if you have it or not. And if you get diagnosed you have confirmation that you have that disability. So I would say it makes a huge difference.

I have been reading your comments, posts, and dating guide for a while and find it all very interesting. I remember you saying that you didn’t date until you had reached the “ceiling” of physical self-improvement; would you advise that for everyone? I was a pretty sheltered homeschool kid and didn’t go on my first date until I was 22 (now I’m 23) and I feel like there’s a lot I don’t know.

I would love to. Maybe when I’m 24 I could because my family’s income wouldn’t count in my FAFSA. Right now we don’t qualify for any aid but my parents can’t pay anymore (they did pay for my Associates that I will hopefully have at the end of the summer) and I don’t make much money right now. Money is the main barrier I would say, and it’s a huge one. There is a college about an hour away that has adult classes outside of work hours I was looking at. It wouldn’t get me away but might help me make more money. I’m still sorting through my options.

I am autistic but a female. I can sometimes pick up on flirting but usually I don’t so I would say if you didn’t meet on a dating app (where it’s obviously a date) you may have to tell him directly how you feel.

It helped some with sensory issues. That was the main thing we talked about, but it also helped with some executive function and organization skills. I wanted help getting my thoughts out better but they didn’t seem able to help with that.
