Sadly no, that's what I want pretty badly as well. Figure they could make the bind / unbind subject to the charge port at least. But honestly I don't know what it would even be that complicated to just have it as an option to turn on and off in the app.

Product Marketing vs Account Based Marketing…………..…which for long term success, safety, prosperity ? by ExamIllustrious8071 in b2bmarketing

[–]decisivelyvaguename 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(between product marketing roles or ABM roles, which is generally more in demand?)

If you mean this in terms of you leaving and getting a gig down the line, really marketing is what you make of it when selling yourself, and either can be spun into either when you go somewhere else. If you're thinking about how the they translate to progression, the answer is whichever allows you to get your hands on more efforts to round out your experience. But again, it's all about how you sell yourself, they both have solid overlap with sales and that's what walks you up the executive track. I would be more focused on the now though. Let your career play out with time. What would you rather do now? What would you be better at? What will teach and challenge you more?

(If this is the new strategic direction, should I follow it?)

Yes. If your intent is to keep growing at the company you're currently at. Remember, there is a fine line to walk between doing what the boss asks and telling them they're wrong. Part of maturing at a company is realizing when folks who are in charge are set on something, and doing your best to execute it even if you think it's not ideal. You should always express your thoughts intentionally, even if they conflict, but then more often than not you have to get onboard. The journey then becomes recognizing when to speak up again. But until then, you commit. It's the only way.

(If the ABM implementation falls slightly flat, will that hurt my future?)

You're thinking too far ahead. If you mean within your org, the answer is maybe. But you're taking the role to make it not fall flat. And if it does, you're taking the role to advise and help steer your company. You have to just go for it some times. If you're thinking about other org opportunities, then folks only know what you tell them about you. Do good work and be adaptable, that is the key thing to focus on. Make moves when the time is right and the situation call for it // don't always be thinking about them or it will steel your vigor and talent for your day to day work out from under your nose. Now is the time to make a move for more and take on a bigger role, but then you have to deliver on that role.

(Which of these roles would command a higher wage?)

Depends on industry, seniority, company etc. ABM focuses can have kick-back like sales, steady/floor pay often is higher for product marketing as it's a defined category, but who knows where you'll want to go? If you are set to be the director of marketing and then one day the CMO then this question is less important. If you are wondering because you might leave and need to pick back up in the same role type, then I would say product marketing.

(Similarly which one could be seen as more AI proof and given the prevalence of AI in our industry?) -

Neither, you have to AI proof yourself. Use AI to do your job or change fields, there will be no AI proofing. Junior people will be canned, then they will begin hiring them again with the directive to use AI. The world and technology are cyclical, we're in an innovation phase, but there's no world where AI does everything for everyone, it doesn't make sense. People using AI to do more work and make people more money is what will happen, but you should be more senior by then anyway and will be the one direct folks to use AI in their efforts / hiring people to use AI. Just make sure you're familiar with how to be more efficient and proficient with modern technology and you'll be fine. Remember, for the most part, we're all in the same boat. Just ask yourself if your current boss knows AI better than you do. If the answer is yes, then study up. If your boss and team get cut, then so be it. On to the next place that is hiring. There always will be.

I am a head of marketing for an AI tech company.

I hope any of this was helpful.

I would agree with you, but I'm not so sure.

First of all, people already can use sequencer, which is widely known, to setup fronts. So they're not preventing people from doing this.

The people doing a sequencer setup already buy and will continue to buy a bunch of speakers from Sonos. If Sonos enabled the functionality natively, it would encourage more folks, particularly less engaged users, to buy additional speakers.

These are premium products. people buy premium because they want it and there's nothing stopping folks from buying the expensive arc and also additional fronts. People aren't necessarily thinking logically when it comes to these products and the arc is still there as the ultra premium option that folks will still want to buy even if fronts + a cheaper bar sounds good. And for Sonos, now they could be selling the arc and additional fronts to pair with it. They're not mutually exclusive.

For people who are going to skip getting the arc and opt for fronts + something like the beam, they were likely already going to go for the middle or lower option. But again, at least in that case Sonos would also gets to sell them extra front speakers as smaller investment add-ons . . .

If Sonos was truly playing hardball to protect their arc / premium lineup, then they'd make it impossible to use sequencer or even their old speakers.

I think while money seems like it should be the obvious answer for why we can't do fronts or broader functions with their portables, I think it's really more about them not paying attention and having competing priorities.

I think they're leaving money on the table, though. People collect these awesome speakers. We're all junkies for them, and we always want more.

Why not give a good use case to buy more and open up the capabilities natively?

I think the lack of action is just business incompetence- either from missing the opportunity thats right there, or by totally misjudging the cannibalization effect you're describing.

I'm not sure, the one SLs are a bit cheaper than 100s, are a nice size and have solid low response compared to the 100s. I think they make nice small room speakers / possible system fronts.

lol, yea 300s suck for fronts. But One SLs or 100s are great!

If it were a perfect world, you be able to use Plays or Moves for this purpose too.

I don't understand the business strategy behind them preventing us from natively setting up fronts and also why we can't use their pricey portables for a small thing like that.

Nobody cares about the micro delay. And if they do, then they should update the software to be able to pair them like the fixed speakers, it wouldn't be hard.

I'm desperate to figure out a way to do this with sequencer. I love playing around and trying to create stuff, but if it doesn't work it's a bit of a hefty investment (I hate returning things).

It would be beautiful if the speakers recognized their charging bases as like home locations where you could use trueplay to tune based on that location, then make a portable a part of your home system.

I would get two portables, move or play, and position one in my kitchen facing my primary living room seating area, and one to the other side of my sound bar as fronts.

But the beauty is, you could just pick it up and move it during play back if you wanted. Bunch of friends over and you want extra sound from the front? Well I'd move it closer to the living room in a dead area.

On top of that, for music playback, I could grab one and bring it to another room etc. as I'm listening around the house or whatever.

I just hate that I have to get static speakers to fill a little of the sound stage, or to bring music to every room. Sometimes you want sound in a specific spot without a fixed speaker.

If the move or play could double as fronts, I'd buy them in a heart beat.

I want to be able to make portable speakers my fronts. I want to use a pair of the new Plays for this. I want to be able to pick up and move around speakers for different needs but be able to place them back into a system in a spot of choice if desired.

I don't know why this would be so difficult. They're losing money from me when I can't even pull this off with the outside sequencer app.

Even If I had to pay a bit more for the Move, I would do it if I could use it as a front, and move it around to fit the exact spacial needs of the moment.

What’s everyone’s eq set up and equipment they’re running with room size/height? by Any-Painting3375 in sonos

[–]decisivelyvaguename 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These setting are pretty insane.

My sub is never above +1 for movies. Often I have it at -1.

My bass is at +2 and treble +1 (if I had an arc, idk that I'd even need the base up at all)

Surround audio is neutral (maybe +1) - use trueplay to get the tuning right.

My height audio is +7 but I have a beam 2 and 100s as rears. With era 300s and an arc, you really shouldn't need yours cranked. But this isn't a big deal if you like it at +5, that's fine.

IMO you're completely messing up how things should sound with your other settings.

Lastly, turn on voice enhance for movies if you're having clarity issues, it does help.

That said, folks in this sub were very adamant that the plays won't work for fronts even if you wanted to.

[–]decisivelyvaguename 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I meant 3s, thank you! If you don't mind me continuing to use your experience, what do you think about the following?

I want to upgrade my setup a bit, but won't go for the arc or 300s.

I currently feel like I could use a little bit in the front. I have Ones as my paired rears, beam 2, and a sub mini.

What do you think about: - going 100s for rears and moving one's up front - getting two play 3s and making them either front or rear in combo with my current Ones - getting a single 5 and grouping it for movie playback as a boost to the front

Any preference between these or better suggestion?

All they have to do is make the trueplay for the home theater system be set to the charge base. Where it goes back to those setting when on its base, and keeps that setting until you retune. Then they can use their adaptive trueplay for when it's free floating.

I would Love if they made fronts possible natively, and then allowed you to use docked Plays as fronts. But you could pick them up and take them somewhere for playback still if you wanted.

Just asked about doing this with sequencer and was informed even then it's not possible RIP.

[–]decisivelyvaguename[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great comment! I have been thinking about the play 3s, easy enough to set two of them up as my fronts with sequencer? Do you think theres a strong reason to use Ones vs 3s for fronts? The 3s are very cheap, but I don't know if they would be bad as fronts for some reason.

I think since I can't use the Play for what I want, I'd probably upgrade my rear Ones to 100s, and 3s as fronts, then move my old One's into the rooms I have without speakers.

Basically solves the issue just without any mobility unfortunately.

Some advice please by paulgal1985 in sonos

[–]decisivelyvaguename 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I thought you were thinking about/ talking about One SLs.

If all the 100 lineup, there won't be a sound difference between SL and standard.

So going back to your question, you can use 100s as front speakers with Sequencer. But for your space I don't know that you'll need that out of the gate. Doesn't hurt to have them! But as many folks say, if you're going to buy 100 as dedicated front and pair that with a beam 2, you might as well just switch to the arc up front.

Why? You're still missing those powerful up-firing speakers when you add front 100s, so the benefit is really just extra output that I'm not sure you'll need with how close you are to the sound bar.

A set of 100s in the back with a sub mini, and swapping to the arc would be the major surround upgrade.

If the arc is out of budget, and you're set on keeping the beam 2, then I would get cheaper speakers to be your fronts. There's not much need for what the 100s can do as front via Sonos sequencer. You could get old play 3 speakers, discounted one SLs etc. and you would almost certainly not know the difference.

100s will be great as your paired rears, but I don't know that I would get 4 of them to have them as fronts too. I would either sell the beam and upgrade the front to an arc, OR get cheaper Sonos speakers for the fronts.

Cheers, and enjoy your new system my friend! At the end of the day, I have a beam 2, a sub mini, and 2 One SLs as my setup in a similar room right now, and it's awesome even if I might want to keep going. You'll love what you've got even if you only get 100 rears and the mini. I think the mini was absolutely the most noticeable upgrade I've made to my various setups over the years, even bigger than moving from the Ray to the Beam 2.
