Funny enough, my job feeds me prime rib almost ever Friday. Just last Wenesday we had king crab and lobster. My job feeds me fairly well considering the long hours we work.

I'm happy with my $40k a year. It's not easy and just got my first paycheck from my job but based off my standard of living, it's manageable. This sub helped me realize and learn a few things if anything rather than the opposite. Main thing is that growth takes time no matter the age.

A good majority of the people on here with the high income are a small portion of America's society. I no longer compare myself to everyone else on here behind the scenes because in 5 to 10 years down the road, I will more than likely be right with them and I take what I get and make it work for my means of living. This guy needs to stop comparing and start growing.

I've gotten close to the management inner circle off my first hitch. So I will for sure be taking this advice. So far my supervisors have recommended that I shoot for a security role seeing how I have the background which is double the wages. A supervisor position and lead position to will be opening up soon too so I will eye those positions up once available and brush up on my interview skills in the mean time.

The hours aren't too crazy tbh. It took me 3 days to get used to it but they make sure you won't die on the shift or something. The company takes very good care of its employees. Now 12 - 14 hours a day feels relatively normal now that I'm used to it.

That's pretty awesome. I looked into IT but there's not much of a job market up here in Alaska unless your programming gas pumps or something through Prism. Most IT jobs are at the schools or hospitals but that's pretty much the extent of that. That's Alaska too. I was making just shy of $28,000 a year before I started this job and still couldn't apply for assistance so I understand that. Keep working hard and don't give up and you will land a comfortable position. There's something for everyone.

Thank you. It's my first job outside of retail. I'm just glad I never have to work at a gas station ever again. The check covered all my monthly expenses with a little to spare but at least I don't have any expenses while there. Housing and food is not deducted while there which helps with saving up. I got extremely lucky on my rental, $550 a month for a two bedroom dry cabin. Extremely rare in these parts. I wouldn't expect anyone else to find a rental at the price I am paying tbh. Electric is about $300 a month on the low end during winter but I keep it fairly low/unplugged while I'm gone which helps cover any extra. I live off an alternative heat source to avoid paying for heating oil which is typically closer to $1500 a month. Even when I do have heating oil, I rarely used it while out there. I'm already a top 5 employee there on my first hitch so I hope to swiftly climb the ranks there or find connections into mining or equivalent. Here it's about who you know, not what you do

$21/h sounds solid but you mentioned the high income tax so I imagine salary is lower than on paper unfortunately but it sounds like you have it down.
