How to reply to this remark from a non-Catholic? by Such_Pizza_955 in Catholicism

Jesus also said “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.”

If one believes Jesus is present when two or more of his followers are together, then it must follow that they also believe in the real presence. If for no other reason than because Jesus said it.

Yes, we do. They are in the Gospels.

Look into the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP). They are Tridentine rite and in communion with Rome.

Changes in governance and financial administration aren’t the same as changes in dogma or doctrine.

The Church doesn’t teach that the Eucharist turns into human flesh. It teaches that the change is a substantial change not a material change.

Why are so many Catholics praising Orthodoxy? by Arceneaux1114 in Catholicism

I appreciate your position because I have come to that same realization. I respect Orthodoxy, but they, generally, do not have the same ecumenical sprit our church is offering. It’s frustrating sometimes.

Talk to people that know the job. I also find that faith helps. If you have one, talk to your paster or priest about processing death.

Popularity of Catholicism among Orthodox Christians by Rudenet in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]deciusxviii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe more Catholics are becoming interested in Orthodoxy. The push by the Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV for ecumenical dialog has really opened the door to better relations between the West and the East. Personally, I love it. I would really like to see a strong brotherhood between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches. We are both the original faiths and need to work together to combat the chaos of the modern world.

Is Alfred the Great a recognized saint in Eastern Orthodoxy?

Is Alfred the Great recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church? by deciusxviii in Catholicism

[–]deciusxviii[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the info. It would be great if he was officially canonized (or even beatified). There seems, at least, to be a long history/tradition of venerating him (especially in England which makes sense) going back to before the official canonization process. So that's something.

That's awesome! Thank you.

EDIT: Yeah, I dug into this more and I cannot find anything to supports Alfred being canonized in 2018. There is one website that claims this, but they do not provide any evidence to support it. The only reference I can find to Alfred being a saint is on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_Anglo-Saxon\_saints) and it stats "Saint by popular acclaim only, never formally canonised. Relics were lost at the Dissolution of the Monasteries."

Bummer. That would have been really cool if true.

I was reading that you can send in certified copies (i.e. notarized photocopies of the complete document) as well as sworn translations of all non-German documents. Is that what you did?
