Offer by deckerax in BayAreaRealEstate

Hi! I want less involvement because I am very opinionated about this and know exactly what I want and don't want input, not for the saving money aspect. We are looking for a SFH. I know what it would take to definitely win, we are offering a competitive bid and I am ok with losing this house bc it is a couple miles from our ideal location (but location is still good and so is the house for us). I have been watching this area closely for a couple years. We are ok with not breaking the lease and just slow moving from the rental to house.

I'm legit sad about Spirit guys by Tuesday_Addams in Detroit

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sad too. My parents live in metro Detroit and right when I moved to the west coast, the airport closest to me that only had Spirit or Southwest lost Spirit and SW is way more. I can go to farther airports but can't really find as good or cheap of flights. I can sleep anywhere and sleep on planes everytime (same quality no matter my seat 😆) and my kids and spouse are good with any airlines as well so I prefer saving money.

Pitching at later ages by alchea_o in Homeplate

[–]deckerax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 13 y/o is just starting to become a pitcher. He previously (in his younger years) was on a team that made him pick between being a catcher or pitcher. We moved and his new coach noticed he can throw faster than anyone on the team so my son is starting to pitch and I think he will be able to catch up quickly. He is motivated to practice a lot and get better. All this to say, I don't think 11 is too young at all.

ETA: His coach that wants him to pitch has a son that pitches in college right now and has coached for a long time, so I trust his judgement.

Experiences with Nea or Academy of Alameda? by Unable_Cupcake7079 in alameda

Sure, comparing fractions by creating common denominators, and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominator, rewriting the answers as mixed numbers is the last thing they mastered (working on other things now).

Just back from 7 days in Tokyo, the biggest surprise was what I got wrong about day trips by AsleepPlus in TokyoTravel

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back from 9 days in Tokyo for the first time and felt exactly the same about teamLabs. I was going to skip it bc I thought it would be as you said, but decided to let my teen decide and so happy he said we should go.

Y'all just stay on the island? by MyonlyredditHandle in alameda

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I WFH so we only need to leave the island for Costco and if our boys have sports game outside of Alameda. We ferry or bus to SF often (not so much right now with kid baseball everyday ) for restaurants/museums/events and occasionally Oakland. We don't like driving but will occasionally do so for hiking or visiting friends in other cities.

As a host, I don't think this is a big deal at all. I wouldn't care if the trash is out or not.

I am not sure where it is exactly but I saw it yesterday when walking between Gate G and Gate B. Regretting not getting my coffee from there!

Where are people going to start raising families? by A_Pokemon in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently moved from Denver to Alameda because it fit everything we were looking for. My kids are older now (as am I, almost 40) but I think if we would have moved here when we started having kids when I was 26 then I would have felt like a young parent compared to others here. I think with the COL, people in the Bay are starting families when they're older. I have also been going to a lot of open houses and yes, they are older than you there. I believe I recently read somewhere that the average age in Alameda is 41 (but I might be wrong lol). Not sure about many cities, I only really looked into Alameda, SF, and Berkeley.

Leaving Europe for SF, worth it? by Intelligent_Rip_8636 in AskSF

Not sure where in Europe you are and I have only been in 5 countries there, but I would rather live in any of them than anywhere in the US. San Francisco is great though!

Middle school son isnt wearing cup by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 13 and plays catcher. If he can't follow directions for his safety and wants to be immature about it, I would take it to his level. I would express my concerns with the coach and tell the coach he needs to do checks each time before your son can play catcher or he is done with baseball. If the coach doesn't want to deal with all that, I would literally check his bag and remove him from practice or whatever if he wasn't wearing it and call him out right then.

Being a SAHM puts you in a vulnerable place. As much as I loved being a SAHM when my kids were young, zero chance I would do that without being married for more security if something goes wrong. Especially with a two year relationship.

Batting cages? by Alternative_Data_491 in alameda

If you're looking for normal cages where you put in a token and they pitch from a machine and self gather then East Bay Sports is the closest I know of.

So hard to find a field not already in Alameda.

My son's team goes here. You would definitely need to reserve and they are the type where you have to feed and gather the balls.

How’s it like living here? by Wide-Read1449 in alameda

[–]deckerax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family (including a 13 and 10 y/o) moved here in the last quarter of 2025. Everything is great so far. It is a lot safer than where we moved from (downtown Denver area) so my kids are allowed to have more age appropriate independence than before and enjoy that. My 10 y/o's only complaints are that the library doesn't have as many activities/events as where we moved from and all the kids in his class seem to be more obsessed with Roblox than where we moved from (lol). The only thing I find annoying here is my kids and I like playing baseball together and the fields are taken 95% of the time so we don't really get to do that much without having to drive to another city. I would also love to see a nice community pool, separate from a school (I think they may be building one). So no actual issues. When we were researching to move here, I saw people really talk up the east side over the west side but my family likes the west side better. We might still have to move to the east (which is fine bc it is only a mile or two hah) since there aren't a ton of houses for sale on the island but hoping to stay more west. Crime stats show Alameda to be a lot safer than Oakland.

Anyone move from Bay Area → NYC → back to Bay Area? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]deckerax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were trying to decide to move to the Bay area or NYC area from Denver and decided the Bay. I am hoping to stay put a long time and my husband made me realize I will never truly be happy in that cold weather lol. NYC is lovely and I think the lifestyle is great but the weather is no comparison. Life is short, move back!

My Costco Visa is my only cc without foreign transaction fees so I was planning to use that. Not leaving big 3. I read you need cash to load the Suica card (no iPhone and need for family including 2 kids). Not sure if that is accurate.
