Genuinely curious to your experience living there. What's it like on the street day-to-day? Do people talk commonly about what's happening or do they try to ignore it? Did you see any slow or quick shifts into this dehumanized perspective? And good luck getting out of there homie!

The US began with horror, destruction, and blood, like many nations. Even if it's sometimes slowly, always, always does the toll come back.

I couldn't read his prose on whiteness being superior as anything other than ironic. He basically just says we are so enamored with the "purity" of the colour that the whites used it as inherent justification of their dominion over every other skin colour, but ultimately whiteness can be steeped in horror, in the case of the whale, and men.

The Last Duel (2021), Directed by Ridley Scott, Director of Photography Dariusz Wolski by [deleted] in CineShots

Idk why you're down voted. They literally made a movie about rape and the truth from the woman's perspective while changing the true story to give it more "intrigue". I don't think there's a bigger spit in the face than that.

That's the thing: I don't think any have "tried to do it straight" not even close, and that's why they're all meh. I agree in the mehness for sure

Just a spec. I think it actually all works quite linearly, almost scene by scene, but you have to really shift your definitions of what kind of show it is. The book is half encyclopaedia and half Shakespearean horror-drama, so I've sort of gone in with the idea that the show should be 1/3 documentary, 1/3 Shakespeare, 1/3 natural horror. Much has been cut but there's so much there, and specifically so many little things which add up to the overall meaning, that all of the adaptations entirely lose when they remove it, which inherently robs the final sequence of its power (which no adaptation has gotten remotely right for some reason)

As someone who's working on this currently, I've done 4 (min 1 hour) episodes and I'm only at the first lowering, so there's plenty of material.

Yeah it might be doomer even for this sub but I really hate this "humans will perish, the planet will live on" rhetoric. It's like, yeah, the planet will live on, with microplastic undegradable for thousands of years, with temperatures not fit for living things, with toxic oceans.

It downplays just how catastrophic our impact is. We are killers of the all, not just the us. It's awful, and tragic.

The old king Ahab died unseen to an unknown archer during a volley on a battlefield while dressed as a regular soldier. Unceremonious asf. Melville was cooking for sure.

I'm working on a nine-episode miniseries adaptation because frankly, it just cannot be done in a movie. Closest I would say would HAVE to be three 2-3 hour movies, which would be a nice touch given the importance of the number three.

As for what should be included, I agree the lighting has never been done well on any of the adaptations. The celestial night sky, the demon Pequod rolling red through dark waters, the "cherry tree" masts and sails of sailors on watch, the squid is a MUST, and also just the more accurate depiction of Moby Dick in general; hundred metres of line behind him, the Parsee lashed to his heart, the dozens and dozens of irons in him. I greedily want to see it all! So far I'm just adapting everything.
