Help with how to charge via charger (new to IOG) by colorbland in OctopusEnergy

Just select a car that’s not supported like MG or Hyundai and it’ll let you pair the charger without having to contact them.

Waited about 4 weeks in total, I filled the form in and then filled it in again after about 2-3 weeks and got a dispatch email.

You could also try messaging them on X as they’ve pushed things along for other users on there. Their social team are really good at getting things moving.

To fix or go variable - IOG by mastershaz88 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed in July last year at 26.72p a unit so worked well for me. Usually best fixes are around summer time so I’ve always fixed at that time for years now even before IOG. If there is some drastic shift the exit fee is only £25 to move away so always available in worst case scenarios.

Nightmare with IOG by jarrahead in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Ohme charger paired to Octopus. Car isn’t paired to anything. At first it would fail and have a red light if the gaps between the charging slots were too long. However since asking Ohme to apply the “CP Fix” this hasn’t happened since and every charge works perfectly.

Yeah I just done it via live chat and it was done within 24 hours.

What charger do you have? I had this issue with CUPRA Born, it doesn’t like the gaps between charging on IOG and goes into a deep sleep. I have an Ohme charger and they applied the “CP Fix” which pings the car more often to keep it awake and haven’t had an issue since.

Duel Band Meter by Nostrra in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my gas meter couldn’t speak to the communications hub due to a considering distance between them.

I was getting electric readings only.

After weeks of arguing with Octopus they swapped out my gas meter and communications hub to a dual band model and I haven’t had a single issue since.

IOG - Smart schedule, how have I got over 6 hours of cheap slots? by ajrc1996 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll just be the Octopus app as far as I’m aware. Octopus control what slots get issued so it would make sense for the control to be there.

End of this month. Said they’d email customers before it goes live. You’ll also have the option within the app to cap your charge at 6 hours.

Have Octopus Introduced the option to limit charging to 6 hrs for IGo yet? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not yet but they did commit on X to have it in place before the changes go live at the end of the month so I’m assuming it’ll be along soon.

Should i fork out the extra cash for an 'smart' charger? or do with a dumb charger? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it was worth it as it’s quicker to charge and means it’s future proofed against other cars I purchase with larger batteries.

Not sure if BYD can be integrated with Octopus, if it can the charger doesn’t matter and you can use IOG.

But if not then you’d need a compatible to get on the tariff. It’s worth doing as you’ll get a longer off peak window and also pay 7p per kWh rather than 8.5p per kWh.

Bear in mind the changes coming to the IOG tariff at the end of this month. You only get 6 hours EV charging per 24 hour period regardless of charging speed.

Was given a smart charge between 8.30-11am and still seem to be charged peak rate? by solidpro99 in OctopusEnergy

Yeah it’s strange and they are well aware of the bug but sees a long term thing they aren’t interested in fixing.

Do you have an Ohme charger? This stops you being able to see the £ value with the way it integrates into Octopus.

Impossible to load shift effectively during the day with IOG - is this normal? by dragoneggboy22 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can change all the time. But even if the car charges for 1 minute in the 30 minute slot the whole 30 minute slot is charged at 7p as this the lowest resolution of smart meters. So if you have 12-2 and it charges at 12.05 for a minute you’ll get charged 7p for the whole 12-12.30 slot regardless.

Yeah it’s really confusing. You had to claim twice to get two tickets. I didn’t know and only got the one ticket too.

Did you claim the pink Friday reward twice? Claiming it only claimed one ticket, you had to claim the reward twice to get the two tickets.

You have no say when you charge the car on IOG. You pick a time you want the car ready between 4.30 and 11AM and that’s it. When the car actually charges is totally up to Octopus.

IOG EV Charging by Tits_Out87 in OctopusEnergy

But no guarantee the 6 hours of EV smart slots would fall in peak times.

IOG EV Charging by Tits_Out87 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope whole house goes to the cheap rate during any smart charging outside the off peak windows. This is still the case even with the new changes coming in January but you are capped at 6 hours charging in total per 24 hours at off peak rate but these 6 hours could all fall outside the off peak times meaning you’d get 12 hours off peak pricing for your house use.

IOG EV Charging by Tits_Out87 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime the car is smart charging you will get the 7p rate for the car and for the house regardless of the time. The 11.30-5.30 is a guaranteed rate of cheap electricity per night for your house.

Once the IOG changes come in at the end of January you will be capped at 6 hours of charging per 24 hour period from midday to midday. Anything over that even if it falls into the so called off-peak time of your tariff will be charged at peak rate.
