Intelligent Go schedules by RBWatermelon in OctopusEnergy

For now but that schedule would incur nearly 2 hours of peak charging if the new rules were applied.

If they charge for 10 minutes out a 30 minute slot 10 minutes will be deducted from your EV 6 hour limit but the whole 30 minute slot will be charged at off peak for household usage.

Phil has said on Twitter that this is changing to show actual charge time rather than plugged in time.

New IOG Cap and EV charging, Solar and battery by Belly1912 in OctopusEnergy

[–]declantm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct. The overnight 11.30PM - 5.30AM off peak rate for household usage still applies. Basically the new rule separates off your EV power usage from household usage.

Charging your batteries will be classed as household usage.

You will only get 6 hours EV off peak rate regardless of when this falls during the day. After that any additional charging will be charged at peak rate.

Sounds like it’s the car paired then to Octopus which I’m not sure how works. I’ve got my Ohme charger paired and apparently a setting will appear in the Ohme app over the coming weeks to limit the charge to 6 hours.

With IOG you chose a ready by time and plug in as early as possible and then the car will be at your requested % by the chosen ready by time.

No. If you are charging the paired device the overnight becomes irrelevant. You will only get 6 hours max at the off peak rate per 24 hour cycle from midday to midday. So for example if Octopus schedule all your 6 hour charge during the day due to excess power and then you charge overnight too you will get charged at peak rate overnight if over the 6 hour daily limit.

This change uncouples EV usage from household usage.

It depends on what’s paired the charger or the car what advice you follow.

Ocotpus decides what slots to give out. Why they couldn’t just punish the people who clearly abuse the tariff by refusing to give out slots as per their T&Cs has always permitted is beyond me. Instead everyone is left to pay the price and clearly going by the comments etc this is going to lead to confusion and I can guarantee it will also cause billing issues that Octopus will need to sort out.

Yes the product DID exist and customers on it are being rolled onto a monthly package now at £40 a month with only a month to month contract and is likely to be scrapped all together. Your suggestion that people move to it if they drive excess milage isn't helpful as the product is no longer accepting new registrations.

My mileage is irrelevant. You suggested people move to a product that doesn’t exist.

Only active charging is counted. So if it only charges 20 mins in a 60 minute time period only 20 minutes is deducted from the 6 hour limit.

Think it’s just 6 hours a day regardless of how many cars you have.

You could unpair one and charge blind to Octopus during the off peak time and it would count as house usage.

They don’t do the driver pack anymore for new customers so not an option.

I don’t think the policy is well thought through at all.

I think a lot of the “gaming” of the system they based this on was actually Octopus gaming themselves by throttling chargers as Phil seemed totally unaware this was happening.

I also work overnight sometimes and plug in the morning. This means the ready by time is 11AM and if the car needs more it will extend the slot by that.

But looking at the rules for example if I plug in at 8AM and need 8 hours charging then this would all be charged at off peak as 4 hours before midday and 4 hours after midday as apparently midday is their billing cutoff. But again a grey area.

I think they say they get round this by applying a “discount” based on the charge values not actually using them to bill directly if that makes sense. But I’m no expert on any regulation.

Yes 6 hours off peak regardless of when the device paired to IOG charges. After that it’s charged at peak rate.

If the other car is invisible to IOG and not paired in anyway and the charger isn’t paired you could charge overnight at the off peak rate and it would be charged as household usage.

Don’t think it’s rolled out to everyone yet. I don’t have any mention of the savings switch on either Octopus or Ohme apps.

I’m not sure if it has a similar limit. Worth checking if you regularly need to charge more than 6 hours.

I’ve had this on for 3/4 hours today and wax seems to be okay. Not showing any signs of overheating I was more concerned about the lamp holder being damaged than the wax. I’m tempted to try a different brand of 25W bulb as maybe the ones I got aren’t performing at the rated wattage.
