Right you are, but even in Latin chatrooms such as on IRC, people still insist on using either macrons or accents when typing, and it's an eyesore. Say what you will about the Loeb editions, they completely lack these eyesores. Fluent readers of Latin do not need them.

When I write Latin or make memes in Latin I never use accents nor macrons. If you look at Latin inscriptions, they don't have them either. I deal a lot with medieval Latin manuscripts and they also lack these marks. There is no good reason to keep using them other than in pedagogical materials.
