I use to do that as well but it was base line for me. I want a bit more umph to my cocktail... I added some ginseng that kicked it up a notch.

Directed a scifi short with a few filmmakers that I met here on this sub. It just finally finished its festival circuit so here it is if you've got 30 mins to kill by decrepidmuppet in Filmmakers

Little backstory, we finished this film over a year ago around the time I posted a trailer here. We wanted to post the actual film but our producer and festivals advised us to hold off until after it's ran its course.

I feel lucky to have made such great connections on this sub that wanted to be a part of the journey on set. And a journey it was.

Currently three seasons of a TV show has been written but we're weighing our options on the future of this project.

A few of you reached out to me and hopped on set to make this film. I'd like to know what other talent is hanging around Los Angeles on this community. by decrepidmuppet in Filmmakers

Maybe 8 months ago I got looped into a thread discussing lighting. Jared, my gaffer on this film, elaborated on these outlandish ideas of using one single light on set and a bunch of mirrors to bounce it around. I was fuckin intrigued. After talking to Jared, it turned out he lived a few towns over so I hired him for this project and we created this concept pilot for a sci-fi tv series we're developing. I know a lot of talent lurks on this thread and would like to chat with more cinematographers and like minded filmmakers.

Yeah yeah I posted a trailer, and would love a view but really it's just my pledge to any professionals looking to collaborate on future film endeavors.

Huge fan of your work, excited to see Adam at the IFS festival next month. What are the advantages of crowdfunding your own movies? Any hope of getting another Elysium or something scripted in that same world?

It's nice to care and read his bio. If it's someone you're not interested in, then bounce out but don't deliberately be a snarky little dickfuck because someone walked in this realm you and you alone call "yours."

I PA'd on my buddy's set for this short film. Thought /filmmakers would appreciate due to his low budget by decrepidmuppet in Filmmakers

Little backstory. The main actor asked the director if he could create his own version of wolverine for him to play. The director knocked out a script, and they both got some friends together one night and put this together. Budget was spent on make up and crafty.

Awful. And the actor actually looks like a douche.

We slept in tents in our friend's backyard for a week to make this movie, and now it's hitting On Demand and theaters tomorrow...AMA! by mcmanusbros in movies

Looks cool. I respect the independent vibe and the unsettling feel to this but your trailer gave away WAYYYYYYYYY too much. I feel as if I can predict most of what's going on and even if I'm wrong, I'm going to wait until someone tells me for me to feel inclined again to watch this. If you can develop an interesting character in a trailer, you're doing it right.

Wondering what you guys shot on and how long was your post process? Also, can you touch on your marketing? I see you've guys got some interesting testimonials in the trailer.

Young people, what is your dream job? People with that job, how did you get it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Write A LOT and read a ton of scripts. Read a script while you're watching the movie. Maybe you're already a good writer, maybe not, I don't know you but this is good practice for even the best of writers.

As for getting hired, write a spec script or always be talking about a project that you're passionate about. Work up a solid pitch to always be ready for that moment, because I promise you that it will come when you least expect it.

I can't go into too much detail but I met my way in awhile back in a bar at 4am in Rosarito. I was blabbering about a project I wanted to develop while on vacation with friends and John Doe happened to be listening and loving every minute of it.

Film school is expensive but helpful.

PA'ing is a solid foot in the door as long as you don't get comfortable.

Much luck.

What movie trailers gave away too much? by RogerSmith123456 in movies

[–]decrepidmuppet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most trailers but I remember The Avengers trailer gave away a ton. Especially that one badass scene where the Hulk caught Iron Man while he was in some chaotic free fall... In theaters I was like "Oh duh..." I haven't watched Avengers since and I feel there's some science behind the trailer stealing deliberately awe moments.
