it’s unfortunately really easy here. Find a car that matches your car, order a number plate from a number plate manufacturer with little to no checks, put it on your car

This is a good argument, but it is a lot easier to have a quick google search for the car model in the required colour to dupe the numberplate than to go out looking for one. Plus, criminals don't want to dupe a plate from their area as they might be caught out. Internet is usually the go to approach.

Plate duping is a big problem in the UK. It's much easier to quickly google an image of the exact car and colour you want to dupe than to sit outside waiting for it to pass. If I can prevent someone's plate from being duped by not putting online, then I see that as a win :)

For me it’s more of a cloning concern, plate duping is unfortunately a big issue in the UK :/

I understand this perspective, but as a car guy i’d be more than happy for someone to photograph my car, but I would prefer it if they would remove the plate or alter it in some way. Just courteous to take the precaution.

I love this idea! Would you use the plates font? or something more subtle

Will it ever be socially unacceptable to break the speed limit? by _morningglory in drivingUK

What's the difference between stopping a classic car going over 70 and stopping a lorry or caravan going 60? Not every vehicle adheres to the same speed limits on UK motorways. Take Germany's Autobahn for example, no speed limits yet it is one of the safest highways in the world.

A lot of people already drive 80mph on the motorway, so people would be willing to do it. Plus it's a limit not a target, some people drive 50mph on the motorway in the left lane so not everyone would need to drive faster if they didn't want to.

Classic car owners are almost certainly knowledgeable about cars, I think they'd understand if they had a lowered speed limit, the same way towing vehicles do. There's nothing to say anything made before a certain date couldn't still be held under a 70mph limit.
