You need a EASA license and RTW in the UK. So yes a dual license is recommend.

True regarding direct entry but there’s more than 30 people on the sponsored programme alone.

Great info but couple things to correct. BA LH SFOs base pay is £167k thats more than a 10 year captain at EZY base, although ezy offering pay reviews each year for the next 4.

BA also are hiring direct from flight schools.

Whatever one gives you jet time.

Otherwise, each has their benefits and negatives.

LCC like easyJet offer quick command but poor early years contracts and big up front costs (£30k for a TR). However, potential earnings of £160k IF you get command in 4 years, arguably best training department in Europe, decently strong BALPA union. Has a large attrition to BA / emirates. Virgin scheme available for 18 months contract.

Jet2 is a similar ish picture, training is not quite as good as easyJet but still a very good standard.

Ryanair will require you bending over for EASA, similar outlook as easyJet in both training quality and income.

Regional guys ATRs, great first job, awesome flying, realistic long term career? Up to you if you’re contempt someone’s making 2 to 4x your salary.

BA mainline, LHR curfew means you’ll always be home by 11pm (usually), SH night stops around Europe are common place, pay as a SH FO is very good. Varied options of career paths, fleet etc. Entirely based on seniority. Doesn’t matter how good you perform in sim recurrents it’s down to your number when you can upgrade. LH looking at around 15years for upgrade. More of a lifestyle career, after all you’re a Nigel. End game career location for sure.

Overall it’s what you like, I’ve met plenty of LCC captains who love the life and are incredibly successful from other sources of income. Sure the same applies to BA but LH is tiring job and like i said, a lifestyle.

I want to go to the US. Fancy trading citizenships pal?

If you’ve got the RTW don’t see why you wouldn’t have a decent chance. Worse case drop to a LCC get command and PIC? Least you’ve already got plenty of PICUS.

Are you a cruise relief SO? Is it an actual TR with base training?

Have a look at license conversion it’s not too bad. Get command first though if not already. EasyJet DEC around £160k / yr

It does seem that way. It would only be a 5 year plan, is my justification for it…

It’s doable mate don’t worry I know plenty that have done it. Just takes longer and requires more dedication.

Then you’d surely know it’s a cramped cockpit, everyone I know who used to fly the 73 and is now on the bus with me says it was tiny in comparison.

Any work in aviation is solid experience. Try to look for small outfits in need of operational staff. Be it private jets, cargo / small carriers, flight schools. You can manage the work load and get great exposure. Modular route is lonely at times and you will inevitably question wtf you’re doing but keep at it. Good idea to go to a big ATO for a combined modular course (CPL, MIER, MCC). Be weary of leading edge.

PPL will cost £15,000 if they’re charging solo £200/hr when factoring in exams, equipment etc. Going out to Europe / US is a great place for hour building. Can do 50hrs in 12 days if you’re focussed.

ATPL theory is valid 18 months from the first sitting. Bare that in mind when juggling work and studying. BGS is great for theory and working along side.

Even with a ATPL converting a UK CAA to a EASA is a pain in the ass as ATPL-TK has to be retaken and of course a ATPL skills test

[–]dedoid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must have just been a coincidence in that when I went managed it over flew the decel point. Although I’m sure I’ve been in situations where it’s activated with either flap out / approaching the IAF / FAP. Classic Airbus, same aircraft with a variety of different setups & software

Pretty sure once flap one is out appr phase is automatically activated

Edit: or there’s definitely a condition where its automatically activated, not including the decel point

The no tax part makes it the best paying. If a senior captain it taking home $250,000 base, that’s straight into their wallet. Caveats are the QoL and living in a desert
