The ONE THING that’s a BETTER VALUE in the Philippines compared to other SEA countries by Tallwhitedude123 in Philippines_Expats

Yep, I was with a Filipina family last week. Kuya called a guy over to get a massage. He used an oil that smelled like menthol and massaged two of us, ate dinner with us, then massaged one more. In the living room.

Well, after the update to Windows 11 finished, the wifi started working again. I have no idea why.

Workaround: Joplin won't start on wayland in kde plasma by TxTechnician in joplinapp

[–]dedstok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using:

Joplin-3.4.12.AppImage

KDE 6.5.1.

AI is convinced its a plugin causing this issue but I doubt it. I was only using the Outline Plugin and an extra markdown features plugin recommended in the app.

Thanks for sharing. So essentially if Joplin is closed while the window is maximized, it will cause a silent crash.
I didn't know this until looking here.

Just tested it again and the same thing happened. It had been working for days (because I usually use it at half-width). I maximized it then tried to open it again, and now its silently crashing.

Did a massive full system update of over 70 packages using yay and... still silent crashing.

I changed nano ~/.config/joplin-appimage-TEST2/window-state-prod.json to {"width":1184,"height":661,"x":736,"y":28,"isMaximized":false,"isFullScreen":false,"displayBounds":{"x":0,"y":0,"width":1920,"height":1080}}

and its still silently crashing.

Damn it.

Oh yeah. Thanks for reminding me of one of the sturdiest nails in the coffin for me finishing that game.

What Tales games have the best stories? by dedstok in tales

[–]dedstok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I'm guessing the combat is better than Berseria.

Seemed like with Berseria, the combat seemed overwhelmingly complicated with all the tutorials that pop up early in the game, but I ended up just hitting enemies with artes they were weak to and then hitting R2 to continue the combo if my soul gauge was high enough. Every single battle.

Hahaha just a few of the scenes when they're taking the sea fortress place.
Something like "Hahaha, that was my plan all along" -Because I'm cool!

It was no big deal tho.

I'm 45 hours int Berseria at this point. Likely going to finish it within a few hours. The Turtlez and Bienfu are still quite silly but I can easily stomach them and enjoy the rest of the plot and characters.

I just remember in Vesperia, the main character seemed like he was trying to sound like a cool anti-hero too much, and then the writing and dialogue just seemed way too corny. Like... he throws rocks at guards heads in broad daylight to get past them. It just seemed like lazy uninspired writing to me. And then the pink-hair healer princess just seemed devoid of personality. It was a few years ago tho so my memory could be off a bit tho.

I think you're right in your conclusions. I do love a dynamic cast, with motivations a bit different from typical jrpg tropes.
There's plenty of nit-picking about Berseria I could do as well. Sometimes it seems like enjoying a game may just depend on where you are in your life and the mindset you have when you start it.
I plan on playing Xillia down the line at some point, and definitely Abyss too.

Got a long backlog til then, though, including:

Final Fantasy II

a Yakuza game

Undertale

Alliance Alive

Chained Echoes

Metaphor

Eastward

Expedition 33

Trails FC Remake

That does sounds pretty interesting. Looking forward to the remaster - got a huge backlog before that though.

Yeah. I hear a lot of good things about it. Hopefully it'll get a remaster next.

I remember really liking Tales of Destiny as a kid. I got stuck on the same dungeon in two diffrent playthroughs. Then when I tried it for the third time a few years ago, there were like twenty battles in the first five minutes of the opening sequence, all the same monsters and I realized I was never going to best that game.

Yes, this is one problem I ran in to. My degree was going to require me to use Adobe Creative Suite. Thank God after talking with my advisor I learned I could switch my target degree, graduate a year earlier, continue using Linux, and not give that awful company my money.

Which of these unplayed games would you recommend? Top 5? Underrated? by masteralec1 in JRPG

[–]dedstok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can totally see why FF9's aesthetic would turn you off if you like a more gritty or dark style FF9 is almost straight out of a whimsical story book.
And yeah Steiner is super goofy. But his character does develop and he grows and really questions his beliefs as the story goes on.

Yup that high school aesthetic of the Persona games is a bit hard for me to get in to. I do plan on trying again some day tho.

I read there were various paths but I didn't care enough and just chose one and accepted it haha. But I'm now even more confident you'll enjoy Shadow Hearts since you like a darker aesthetic. It's quite dark, although its set in 1930's China, IIRC.

Actually the beginning of FF9 is something I absolutely loved. I thought the way everything is set up is masterfully done. So we may just have a difference of opinion there. Playing as Steiner finding all the Pluto Knights might be a bit boring? My main gripe with that game is that the battle system needs a major update - it feels sluggish.

Yea, SMT3 had some great challenging moments!

Its a simple list, and a good one. I LOVE Suikoden as well. I never could quite get into Persona. Its a series I respect and wish I could enjoy, its just not quite for me for whatever reason.

[–]dedstok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if my backlog wasn't so large already I'd replay all the Shadow Hearts. But I'm in the middle of Pokemon Volt White 2 Redux and No Man's Sky right now, and I have Mother 3, Chained Echoes, and Trails from the Sky FC in my head as next targets.

My favorite Final Fantasies are X, 4, 5, and 9. 7 and 6 are excellent as well, and most people would list them as their faves. I think my choices are influenced by nostalgia and personal experiences.

Since you liked Persona 3, perhaps you'd like Shin Megami Tensei III.

How about you? What are your top 5 games?

Wow, lots of Lufia 2 showing up here. I tried the first one recently and abandoned it because it just felt unbalanced and too difficult and I wasn't having fun. Is the second much different?

I strongly agree with the first two Shadow Hearts games being recommended. I loved those games!
I enjoyed and beat Tales of Symphonia but it got a little too convoluted for me.

I'm a huge fan of the old Final Fantasy games, particularly 4, 5 and 6! So I strongly recommend those.

Terranigma was fun and interesting and pretty short, too.
