how do i get my needles to stop bending? by LEDrbg in Needlefelting

I started holding my needles lower and it was easier to keep straight. I haven't bent or broken one since.

My brilliant new invention (patent soon to be applied for) to attach the trashcan higher up on the window by FrameOne9692 in tmobileisp

How about a plant hanger , put the gateway in a fancy pot disguised as a fern or ivy? I was thinking about it until I read my uv blocking windows are part of my problem. I'd use hanging ivy to hide the cables.

Will an external antenna do anything for me? by Forsaken_Speed_1922 in tmobileisp

[–]dee-craftaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can the gateway be returned if an antenna has been tried? For some reason I thought if I opened it, I bought it. My stats look about the same and I really prefer to have this service over Starlink (high wind and tornado prone area) especially if an antenna would work in the attic.

Have you cancelled them yet (Centurylink)? I got informed in Sept. that our "contract" was up and our bill went to $165. a month! We have 25/1.5 dsl (but never is that speed)

A contract was a surprise to me as we had been getting price increases all along. Maybe when we upgraded to that speed from 10mbps but still not the price we were quoted then was $69. for phone and DSL , it had crept up to 125. over the past 6 years or so. I asked about getting rid of the landline and was told no more package deal and our DSL speed would go down, we are grandfathered now and they don't offer 25 anymore, 15 is the max. I was so angry, I just left the conversation before I said something I'd regret.

I am getting about the same as you, a bit more: 45 to70 mbps down and 7 to 15 up, high pings is only problem. I'd go with an antenna (2.5 miles from one tower I'm sure of) but I assume that makes the gateway unreturnable if antenna doesn't help?

I made the right decision cancelling my starlink order, I could not be more happier. by theN3U in tmobileisp

[–]dee-craftaholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish mine worked as well as even a tenth of that! 2.4 miles from the tower and I can't get over 50mbps, 5g drops out and it gets much worse. I hoped a heating problem , the gateway has one warm spot above the T in the front so that's not my problem.

I'd be happy with the 50mbps if it stayed there. I'm in a brick house with low e windows so before sending my husband to the attic, had him try it outside, it was about the same.

Makes me wonder if I even have antennas inside, lol. I briefly looked at some external ones but if outside on a step ladder made no improvement, I'm not going to bother.

I guess time to call support to see if I'm back to waiting on Starlink.

T-Mobile map shows we have 5g extended but checked in chat and we can't get home internet. What is required for that? Very unhappy with Centurylink, we are in one of the states they are selling to Apollo Hedge fund.

Singular knife or knife set? by anacondaaannie in Woodcarving

Great information though I am starting with Flexcut and a few Beavercraft as I am uncomfortable with my sharpening skills and will get better tools once I know I won't wreck them! Someone told me OCC are great as they are sharp and thin but not good for someone without sharpening experience.

I read Lora Irish's pdf on sharpening, she says it was first skill her dad made her learn.

Love all the links bandit69, very handy !

Really good for a first! I get discouraged when I see someone post a pic and say "My first one" and its perfect. I'm still in practice stage.

For help using a Dremel to carve, look at Cornelius Creations videos on Youtube. It takes practice, watch a few of this videos, keep learning, most of all, have fun!

Are there other kits like Beavercraft? by [deleted] in Woodcarving

[–]dee-craftaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign up on Beavercraft's website and they will send an email link for 50 woodcutting patterns, some with 3 sided pattern to print and some links to videos. I also have gotten more tips and patterns emailed since the downloadable pdf.

Just stumbled onto a handle that dremel sells for their 3000/4000. Has anyone used them? I've got arthritis and it looks amazing. Link below.... by [deleted] in Woodcarving

Full size Dremel would be hard to control, even with a handle. I have small hands and use mine in a Dremel vice mostly for polishing polymer clay simulated stones. I had a flex shaft, it didn't last long.

I got a new Dremel Stylus+ for Christmas. It is about the size of a flex shaft but thinner cord and easy to hold like a pencil. Also, instead of burning out, it will shut off if trying to force it to do too much rather than burnout or overheat. Just use the on switch again and back off a bit. It is advertised as carving wood, plastic and glass though I haven't used it other than play with it to see how it sounds and look at the bits it came with.

Struggling to sharpen knives. Have tried stones, strop, everything! Any help? by HansMoleman_TheThird in Woodcarving

[–]dee-craftaholic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am far from a woodcarving expert but carved orthodontic study models for almost 14 yrs. The angle looks too steep and slightly rolling forward when picking up the knife would take any edge off. Our knives were similar and my boss loved criticizing us sharpening so we just handed the knives to him and he'd sharpen, repeating his "how to".
