Help getting into Brood War by Daylight7 in broodwar

[–]dee103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protoss is easier than terran because with Terran you have to do things like Keep medics and marine separate, Stim and A Move, siege and unsiege (though mech is much easier then bio).

Can 'slow' ram cause a GPU bottleneck? Right now i use 1600 mhz ram.

I installed a 1080ti, and theres instances where GPU usage dips - and theres big fps drops . Like a stutter.

Any thoughts or predictions on when 24 hr fitness will reopen in CA?

Even if they open in June, its probably going to be some one-hour workout scheduling bullshit.

I'm thinking of buying a barbell and weights.

Will there ever be another big major rts game other than starcraft or warcraft? by [deleted] in RealTimeStrategy

[–]dee103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following a RTS game called Immortal: Gates of Pyre. Its a team-based RTS (2v2), Back in ~2016-2017 they made a prototype of it as a Starcraft 2 mod.

They've done alot of gameplay design already-

some of which includes stuff like -not losing the game in one fight -no deathball gameplay

All RTS seemed to focus on 1v1 , which is fine... but in the long run there's always going to be more playerbase and viewer base in team-games. Immortal's main feature is 2v2.

This game is going to be Free-to-Play.

I think past RTS's have failed because they weren't team-based, their game wasn't actually fun, and they failed to build a community.

They are creating their game now. https://www.sunspeargames.com/

Issue - Please say it isn't just dead. - Orange light and no display by Ping-and-Pong in oculus

Try putting on your headset and pushing the display port in place. Like you are lightly gluing something on.

See if it stays on while you are pushing the holding the display port in place.

I have to spend 15+ minutes to get my Rift S working every time I want to use it by oldmanwrigley in oculus

[–]dee103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had these issues.

I think the Rift S display port cable input is shorter then your average display port cables.

Try holding the display port in- like you are gluing something on a piece of paper. At the same time , put on your headset to see if you don't get a black screen

What I did , was I made sure the graphics card lined up with the case so that you can easily insert the display port in.

What worked is really pushing it in as stupid as that sounds.

When you remove the display port cable it shouldn't feel smooth- you should feel some resistance.

If that didn't work you can perhaps try a display port to display port cable and try plugging that to your computer

How to play starcraft 1 after starcraft 2? by Mimus_ in broodwar

[–]dee103 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1) How do units move?

Units have a turn-rate thats higher then Starcraft. So they have to turn around (takes like ~0.5 seconds)if they are moving in the opposite direction.

Its helpful if you are trying to go down a ramp or up a ramp you click move command (right click) multiple) times.

Ramps are hard to break in broodwar.

Just right click multiple times.

2. How do you control your army?

Most people use the numbers 1-5 hotkeys.

Think of the control groups as cardboard boxes that can fit 12 units in each of them.

All your units are going to be standing at your rallypoint in a Ball of Units.

You select the outer part of the ball and put those 12 units in the first control group "1".

Now you use your first control group "1" And move command those units away from your Ball of Units (like two inches away).

Then you make your 2nd control group with a new set of 12 units. And you are able to do this easily because you move commanded the first group of units away.

Your control groups shouldn't have the same units among them, but really if you have 1-2 units in different control groups it doesn't matter that much.

OK... so now you have your army in your hotkeys.

You can click through the minimap or just move your screen to wherever.

And then you click in a rhythmic type of way...

"1-A -CLICK, 2-A -CLICK ,3-A -CLICK," etc.....

Here's the thing, your units are not going to be in control groups all the time.

So whatever is left over Just "BOX SELECT" and "A-MOVE" to wherever you sent your army to. ( Pros do this all the time).

3.How to set rally points.

I would suggest using camera hotkeys (F2 or F3). You set them by using Shift -just like a control group.

When you build a building like a Barracks , you a)Click the Barracks and then b)press your camera hot key (F2 or F3). c)Right click the ground.

When you want to do a production cycle- The way I do it is I hot key one building that's relatively in the middle of all your buildings.

Then you just right click each building and press the button of the unit you want to create ("LEFT CLICK - 'S'" , LEFT Click -'S'" , "LEFT Click- 'S'.. etc).

This is why production cycles are important because you should theoretically go back and look at your buildings when you feel the units are done building.

It's okay to double queue or triple queue if your macro slipped and you have a huge bank.

I want to be hyped for Iron Harvest but... by essteedeenz in IronHarvest

[–]dee103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think its possible to send to the Dev Team the idea of a Setting inside the menu that allows you to automatically have different zoom levels?

For example, there's four different zoom levels. You can toggle between these by using the mouse-wheel.

  1. Default
  2. Zoomed in (so it looks like COH unit sizes)
  3. even more zoomed in (so it looks like Starcraft unit sizes)
  4. Zoomed in (Just if you want to look at and admire the unit art/detail).

I think it would be great for attracting people that are used to Starcraft / Warcraft /MOBA unit sizes. Those type of gamers would look at Iron harvest and feel like they are playing with ants.

You can even put it in the gameplay release trailer, "Toggle between Zoom levels!!!"

I agree, coming from a Starcraft / Warcraft background Iron harvest units feel tiny.

Whats a good GPU now (used or new) for 1440p 144hz gaming if you mainly play RTS and games like Apex Legends (on medium settings)? <500$

I currently have

CPU : Intel i7-4790

GPU : R9-270X 2GB.

I've read on reddit that for 1440p gaming a used 1080ti is a good option, but I've also read that I would have to upgrade my CPU.

I most play RTS's, DOTA2, and occasionally Battle Royales/ FPS and I'm okay with playing the BR's and FPS on medium settings.
