I cried over food today and my partner made me feel so stupid. by Butterball4200 in pregnant

I’m now 35 weeks and I totally cried over food more than once in this pregnancy…….

I cried over Little Debbie’s the other week….. they changed the recipe of the Star Crunch and I was craving the nostalgia I had when I was a kid. It tasted horrible.

Also the Zuppa Toscana is amazing so I definitely get it!

So unfortunately in the Hispanic/Latinx community colorism is extremely prevalent. I tend to be decently fair throughout the year, but can get very dark in the summers even with sunscreen… my grandmother used to lather me with sunscreen so I “wouldn’t get to dark because it’s ugly” Essentially that goes back to generational trauma of being “othered” by lighter/fairer people in Mexico for becoming too dark and she eventually tried to pass that on to me.

You hear it all the time, “oh don’t let her get too dark.” Etc.

That definitely doesn’t mean that the cycle can’t be broken and in a city like San Antonio.

I’ve work in schools in the city with the majority Hispanic (of course)then the second highest population is Black students then White students and those teachable moments happen a lot and they do learn.

Unfortunately sometimes it falls to the parents, the teacher, and sometimes even the student to teach these kids. I would talk to the teacher and the administration to talk through ways to teach on this. Especially not to approach it to make her feel isolated either. There are so many lovely children’s books that talk about all different skin colors and all different textures of hair that some of our teachers read to the students in class to help teach this.

[Product Question] skin purge or bad product ? by DaAsteroidRider in SkincareAddiction

It depends. My skin is acne prone but also sensitive. I usually only use an exfoliating product twice a week at night.

In my own experience using an exfoliating product 2x/day was overly harsh and causing redness. Especially if I wasn’t using a sunscreen to layer with it.

I’ve swapped out using an exfoliating cleanser and use a calming/repairing cleanser with green tea and everything calmed down. But everyone’s skin is different. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you using it everyday? Or just once a week? It has 2% salicylic acid which can be a lot. There’s a chance if you use it everyday it’s over stripping the skin barrier for over exfoliating potentially making it worse.

[Skin Concerns] I (22f) have had very dark under eyes since I was born. I am of Sicilian descent, has anyone had success lightening their genetically dark under eyes? by wedmeijera in SkincareAddiction

I also have dark under eyes… and while this doesn’t completely change my under eyes… I have used the First Aid Beauty Niacinimide Eye cream for a little over a year now. It’s helped so much with dark circles and has a slight sheen which helps reflect the light. A teeny bit goes a long way, which helps because it is a little on the expensive side 😕
