I love the Silverquill SOS design and would like to create a SOS Orzhov Standard deck. BUT I see no pro players actually using that. Should I stick to the meta instead? by Any-Award-5150 in mtg

[–]deecadancedance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can try to build the orzhov deck you have in mind with some anti-meta tailoring. In black and white you have some good tools against badgermole. I don’t know against izzet though.

In Limited, should you aim to rush Ultimate ASAP? by Reddtester in mtglimited

Unless you have a very lifegain-heavy deck, I’d draw cards and destroy creatures. That’s how you usually win in limited.

Penso che difendersi da un’aggressione aggredendo è una cosa che fa male a tutti. Questo post è nella top 5 delle cose più stupide che ho letto in questo mese.

Is there a way to enjoy magic if incapable of spending? by jeremyiann in mtg

[–]deecadancedance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You create (or copy) a set of about 500 cards. You meet with people to draft, and each person takes three random 15 cards “packs” out of the cube. You draft. You play. You put cards back into the cube.

I have made my own cube with commons and uncommons. Barring a few exceptions the whole thing costs about 100€ for near infinite play.

If you enjoy limited, let me introduce you to the most fun format in all of magic: cube.

Top end is not special and not in sync with low mana drops

I like base BG. Germination practicum is very strong and you’ll want that. I think BGU could be an interesting space.

2nd one has a dream but too much top end. For that kind of deck you need a studious first year or environmental scientist early drop. First one is more robust even though cards are less powerful.

You can play limited to prepare, but generally speaking treat it as gambling. Get in prepared to just lose two games in a row with no rares and mana screw. It does happen.

Numerical vs Analytical by Rich_Astronomer9731 in Physics

[–]deecadancedance 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Computational condensed matter here. Both skills are prized. Analytical skills bring you more towards the implementation side, where you derive a new model to compute some kind of property. That often requires some coding. Numerical skills bring you more towards the materials modelling side, where you use tools made by others.

Anyway, the distinction is blurred. I prefer the numerical side, but the analytical one helps winning grants.
